Leela Carter was a child of beauty.
Tiffany:You must be Leela. I'm Tiffany, Tiffany Sampson and welcome to Tri Var. I've been waiting to meet you.
Just as Leela was beginning to speak Tiffany called to two other girls in the living room. Just as the other two came into the room, Tiffany took Leela by the arm and started talking nonstop. Tiffany: This will be your room. All legacies have their own room. And it just so happens that this is the exact room that your mother stayed in when she was elected Vice President of the Sorority House. The new line sisters share rooms. As President, my room is at the end of the hall. Feel free to stop by if you have questions. On and on she went about the house. Talking about it's history and the tradition. Many Leela had already known about from her mother.
Tiffany: I know that both our mothers were considered rivals but I know that we will break the mold and become good friends. I have another leadership meeting I have to go to in a couple of minutes. The ladies will help you unpack and get settled. Chao.
But the other girls had already left just as Tiffany walked out of their sight. Leela went up to her room to unpack.
Brittany: Fresh meat.
The dark haired girl called down the hall. At first Leela didn't know what to expect until she saw the smile on the girl's face.
Brittany: I'm Big Sister Brittany Upsnott and this is Big Sister Heather Huffington.
Leela knew exactly what to do. She bowed to each of them and introduced herself.
Heather: Looks like someone's been well trained in traditions. You'll do well here. Leela: May I join you?
Brittany: Sure
It had been weeks now and settling in to the traditions of being a Legacy was stressful. She saw Brittany playing chess and decided to join.
Brittany: So how do you like it here so far
Leela: Great (slowly smiling)
Brittany: Liar. (she laughed) Brittany: Just watch out for Big Sister Tiffany.
Leela: Why? She's been very nice to me.
Brittany: Just stay on her good side.
Leela: What do you mean? Brittany: Just a little warning. Big sister can be a little overbearing at times. Being the president of Tri Var and Vice President of the Greek Counsel, she expects everything to be perfect. You know she held every pageant crown since she was 6. It doesn't help that her parents are wealthy and she gets whatever she wants. And I mean everything. Leela: But she's been great to me. And she's always answering my questions and helping me.
Brittany: Like I said as long as you stay on her good side, she'll be great.
Leela: How long have you been here?
Brittany: Too long. I'm a legacy too. But my mother didn't pledge. In fact my great aunt was one of the first founding members of the sisterhood. But she didn't have any girls of her own So it was brought on me. Brittany went on to tell Leela about Tiffany. According to Brittany, Tiffany was known to have many male pursuers.
Brittany: It amazes me how they drule over her. But to each it's own. Brittany: One year, some frats even started fighting over her. She was supposedly dating both of them at the same time. But she admitted that they were all just talking. She couldn't help it if she was so irresistible to them. And then there was Michael Cox. I had a big crush on him. Everyone knew it. It was my first year and when he would walk by I could barely speak. But he too fell for her and fell hard. He was part of a secret society on campus and before long he was barred from the organization after revealing secrets to her. I told you she gets what she wants. Leela: Wow, who knew.
Brittany: Just stay on her good side and you will have a wonderful year. Besides she'll be gone in one more year.
Later that night the Tri Ladies went out to a night on the town. It was their sisterhood time and they all went to the hangout.
Tiffany: It's Karaoke Night at Hottie Totties. Plus I need to work on my singing for the show. Tiffany hopped on stage along with some of the other girls from the sorority.
Brittany: She's been taking singing lessons and will be representing Tri Var in the talent contest.
Leela stood there trying to smile with the other girls and cheer her on, hoping that their yelling would drown out her voice. It was Leela's turn to sing. Leela walked up to the mic. It reminded her of Doc's Hangout back in Pleasantview. The music started to play and she began to sing. Just as the crowd was getting into it, Brittany walked onto the stage and sat at the drums. The crowd started cheering her on the more and more she sang. They were really enjoying themselves. At least everyone except for Tiffany. She was not happy with the young freshman that was getting all the attention. As Leela got off the stage the crowd applauded and complimented her on her singing. Tiffany walked up to her.
Tiffany: Hey Leela, great singing. The crowd really like you.
Leela: Thanks I was nervous at first
Tiffany: Oh I couldn't tell. Great though. LADIES! TIME TO GO!
They walked across to the eat dinner. As they walked in the girls were greeted by some of the people that had also came over from karaoke night. Each one had complimented Leela on her singing. She had began to blush. She was not used to all the attention she was getting. As they sat at the table Heather had mentioned to Leela about entering in the contest.
Tiffany: But I was entering in for the organization
Brittany: It doesn't hurt to have two people. You know. . . .just to garauntee a win for the Tri.
But Tiffany didn't care. She took a drink from her glass as the rest of the ladies went on talking. Leela was out in the front one afternoon doing her daily yoga. She usually did her exercising in the backyard but it was still getting cleaned from a ball that had gone on the other night. She couldn't be calm under all that mess. Just as she was exercising a group of college guys were walking down the street in front of the sorority house. She didn't notice that they had stopped walking to look at her. Each of them trying to figure out what she was doing. But one of them was more interested than the others. Blake: Nice
She opened her eyes and looked at the gentleman that was standing in front of him.
Leela: What?
Blake: Nice. Sun Salutation right?
Leela: You know your stretches.
Blake: I know my positions. Leela: Is there anything I can help you with.
Blake: Just enjoying you. Do you work out often? I don't see you at the gym.
Leela: I prefer nature. Too much steel and not enough clear air and blue skies.
Blake: I'm Blake Finley.
Leela: Leela Carter. Blake: Well from the looks of it, I'd say you and I are sisters and brothers.
Leela: No I don't think so.
Blake: I'm an Alph Xhi. We're sisters and brothers.
Leela: Oh. Then yes.
Blake: I was just on my way with the guys to grab some lunch. Would you like to join us?
Leela looked at the house.
Leela: Sorry as a first year pledge, we're supposed to swear off dating with men for the first semester. Being a lady and having excellent grades is most important.
Blake: That's easy. It won't be a date. Just sisters and brother going out. You know . . . family.
Leela: Sorry.
Blake: Man you're tough. But it was at least great to meet a newbie. He kissed her hand and walked off with the other guys that were now talking to some of the other girls.
She watched as he walked away. He looked over his shoulder and their eyes met again. He waved goodbye and she waved back.
Leela: Blake Finley. Brittany called to Leela.
Brittany: Snap out. You're daydreaming girl.
Leela: Did you see him?
Brittany: Who?
Leela: Blake Finley. (she smiled) Brittany: No. Not the Blake Finley
Leela: You know him?
Brittany: Yeah but he is definetly off limits.
Leela: Why?
Brittany: Remember when I told you how to stay on Tiffany's good side. Well that is going the opposite way. Brittany went on to explain.
Blake Finley and Tiffany used to date when he attended University of Llam. He was president of his fraternity chapter there and just recently transferred over this semester and took over the chapter. Anyway. While he they were distance dating, she began dating other people. And once he found out about they broke up. It was the first guy that had ever broke up with her. She cried for days. I think he broke her ego than her heart. Leela: Well that was over a year ago. And clearly she is over him.
Brittany: I don't think so Lee. No one ever broke up with her before. I think she is still caring a little bit. Just remember I warned you Lee. Back at the frat house:
So what do we do. This is our first month here and no one knows who we are. We've passed out flyers, sent radio commercials, put clips in newspaper and the campus station and still no takers. What do we do next Blake. Heather:LAAAAADIEEEEES! PARTY AT THE XHI HOUSE TONIGHT! The ladies all walked in the house.
Castor: Hello Sisters and welcome to the Alph House. Drinks are in the kitchen. Feel free to look around and if you need some personal attention let me know (he winked). Brittany and Leela walked over to the other side of the room to play pool.
Leela: So do you think he's here.
Brittany: Of course he's here. This is his house. Just as leela was beginning to put the stick down, Blake came from around the table.
Blake: Thought you might want to play me.
Leela: Oh Hi.
Blake: I've been waiting for you. I just had to see you again. I figured a party would do it.
Leela: Oh. Let's play. Blake went to go set up the balls.
Blake: I have to warn you I'm really not that good.
Leela: Dont worry neither am I.
They began playing. It took almost an hour before they finished the first game.
Blake: You were right you are pretty bad. Tell you what. Let's make a bet. I win, you go out with me on one date next week. You win and I won't ever bother you again. At least until you finish your first year. I'll even let you break first.
Leela thought about it for a while.
Leela: Deal
Blake: Oh before you start, I almost forgot to tell you. The first game was just a warm up. I've played pool against these guys hundreds of times. (he smiled)
Leela: I forgot to tell you. I was Pool champion in high school undefeated.
His smile disappeared.
