Rosalyn Hill was called to the stand to testify in favor of the Prosecution. The mortal sat nervously in the chair. Her heart raising, palms sweating. She took a deep breath as she searched through the room filled with vampires.
Rosalyn: A few months
Elizabeth: And tell the courtroom how you met
Rosalyn talked about how the two of them met. That at first, at the Haunt but to find out they had seen each other before then. Elizabeth: And did you know at the time that he was in a relationship with Vera.
Rosalyn: Not at first.
Elizabeth: Who did he tell you she was?
Rosalyn looked down.
Rosalyn: His sister. But he said that he didn't-
Elizabeth: That answer will do. Both lawyers cross examined and re-cross examined Rosalyn. She was on the stand for what seemed like hours. It was obvious that the prosecution was trying to make Reed into a playboy and Rosalyn into the other woman.
Elizabeth: How do you feel about Reed Drift?
Rosalyn looked over the crowd
Rosalyn: I love him. Elizabeth: Enough to change yourself for him?
Rosalyn was caught off guard. She took another deep breath. There was a hush in the room. Everyone waited to hear her response.
Rosalyn looked over to Reed. She thought about him and what he was. She thought about the kind of life he lived. The blood drinking, never seeing the sun, never aging.
Then she looked into his eyes. How warm they looked as he looked back at her. Surely they had this conversation before and he already knew how she felt about his life, about the colony and the underworld.
She thought about how much he sacrificed to be with her and cared about her.
She looked deeply at him. Lovingly at him.
Rosalyn: I would.
The crowd roared again.
Jessamine had heard enough and was ready call a recess to come back with her verdict.
Jessamine: It was a long recess. Vera sat impatiently waiting while Elizabeth went to see if there were some last negotiations between the two parties. Chip Jurkin: Reed, she is willing to drop all charges if you stay with her. If you just commit to her. There is nothing that says you can't have Rosalyn to be with on the side. As long as you are loyal to Vera.
Reed: I can't. I'd rather take death. And if you are my lawyer, you would understand. Jassamine came back into the room. All stood as she entered the room and after seated the crowd grew silent, hanging onto her every word.
Jassamine: I do have to say that this took a lot of me to think hard about. Here we are discussing a matter that is clearly in violation of our Colony Code. A code written by our ancestors long ago. When trust and honor meant everything. Jassamine: My father was one of the founding members of the colony and he would be shocked to know of what has become of his people. His family. Here we have a woman that was tricked by the one she trusted, the one she cared for. According to code, once loyalty is pledged, you live by it or die by it.
Jassamine: Yet we have a man, that was once a mortal, tricked into thinking he was escaping the life he was in for a better one. Tricked into thinking he too was going to be loved in return for his loyalty. It is also according to code that, a mortal cannot truly be turned by their maker and pledge loyalty if they are not the true life partner. Jassamine: So, as your Queen, I order that Reed Drift suffer the greatest punishment from any vampire. He is released from his maker. He is released and made to find his true life partner no matter if it takes centuries or minutes. That he is removed from the colony immediately until he has found his life mate. Court is adjurned. Vera grew furious. Her eyes gleamed with anger.
Elizabeth: Now, now Vera.
Vera: Oh shut up!
As the Queen stepped down from the bench to greet the rest of the courtroom, she was approached by an angry and enraged Vera.
Vera: Have you lost your mind? Until he finds his mate, were you not there in the courtroom. Rosalyn is his life mate. He found her. This is no punishment, this is ludicrous. Have you gone mad?
The Queen quickly raised her hand.
Jassamine: That is ENOUGH! You dare question my authority. You dare approach me with such hostility and vulgarity. You hold your tongue Vera or I promise I will see to it that you remain imprisoned for the rest of your underworld life.
Queen: I know exactly what I am doing. I am giving him the life you took from him. You knew he was not your life partner yet you chose to turn him anyway. You had him pledge his loyalty to you even though he was not meant for you. You knew this. You knew the code. Queen: And now you have the galls to want him for yourself. He was never meant for you. He was never meant to be one of us. You only catered to your own selfish need. So for his punishment for breaking code, was the 50 plus years he spent tied to you Vera. Time served. Queen: Now do what you are told Vera, and release him.
Vera looked over at Reed and then to Rosalyn. Her anger was calming. She reluctantly walked over to him. Vera stood in front of Reed. She remembered the 50 years they spent together.
Reed: I guess this is it.
Vera: But it doesn't have to be. If only you loved me instead of her. I could learn to love you back. To not take you for granted. This doesn't have to be the end Reed. Just tell me what I have to do. Reed: Over the years Vera, you have become so cold. So distant. You are barely the person I met 50 years ago. I know there is a piece of you that is still there and hopefully you will let it shine someday. Reed: You have done so much for me Vera. If it wasn't for you I might not have met Rosalyn at all. You saved me, from a different life. And I thank you for that. I care deeply for you Vera. I just love Rosalyn more. She is the one for me. And I know you will find the one for you. She hugged him tight. He returned her embrace. She looked deep into his eyes. He could see the warm glow.
It was hard for her to get the words out. Her voice was a little more than a whisper as she held back the tears.
Vera: As your maker.........I release you. She gave him a small kiss on the lips. It was gentle and short.
Vera: Goodbye Reed Drift.
Reed: Goodbye Vera Kline. Vera walked out of the courtroom, some members of the colony followed behind her. Photographers flashed their cameras as she walked through the crowd. Reed knew it would be the last time he would see her again. Two years had passed since then. Reed and Rosalyn had bought a place outside the city and outside the colony. Reed wanted some time to spend with just them. Reed: Are you sure you want to do this? I mean take our relationship to the next level.
Rosalyn: I do. We've been together for two years, we have a place together. I mean...it is only fitting. But you will have to be gentle since this is my first time.
Reed: You're not afraid are you?
Rosalyn: A little. But I know you won't hurt me.
Reed: I promise.
Reed: Took her in his arms again and kissed her long and deeply.
Typing:
Rosalyn and Reed walked to their bedroom where he gently laid her down on the bed. He looked deep into her eyes. And asked her- Reed: Finishing up on the book Rosalyn.
Rosalyn: Just a second. I have a few more lines to include before I am done with this chapter. Rosalyn began typing the rest of the sentences.
Rosalyn: And done.
She turned her chair around.
Reed: Ready to meet the colony.
Rosalyn: I am
Her eyes glimmered. Over on the other side of Bridge Port. Vera: I can give you everything you desire and more than you could ever imagine Travis. I can give you a new life. With me. All you have to do is say yes. Pledge your loyalty to me and I am yours.
Travis: Yes. I want to be with you Vera.
Vera: Then close your eyes. Vera leaned forward and bit deep into his skin. His body felt hot from the venom of her bite. And then, there was transformation...............................
Thanks for reading my story. There is more to come with Rosalyn and Reed as they begin a new story of their own.

I have to say that this is the first story that I have read in a long time here on TRS and I truly enjoyed it. I am just finishing it for my internet went down on me like a week ago right at the end of the story and I just had to come back and finish this to see the ruling and how it ended. Great story makes me want to start writing again. I haven't written a story in a long time but I think I might take a stab at it again...
