Recap: Ava and Gabriel ended their relationship after Ava found Gabriel spending time with another woman. Little did she know Gabriel's supernatural background... Three months later...
Gabriel watched Ava from a distance and continued to act as her guardian. However, Ava was totally unaware that this was happening. He had settled well into his new apartment and it wasn’t far from the one that Ava rented in the city.
The one thing he missed was being close to Ava and also working with her. Since their breakup she’d changed her shifts to avoid awkwardness of working together. Ava was finally coming to terms with being apart from Gabriel. She had thought he was the love of her life and it had taken her a few months to get used to living without him. One thing that helped clear her mind of all things Gabriel were her morning jogs. This morning was no different but the person she bumped into was different.
“Excuse me miss,” he said, “Please may I have your autograph Miss Green?”
“I think you’re confusing me with someone else,” Ava replied blushing.
“You’re not Eve Green?” he asked confused, “You look very much like her!”
“I’m Ava Green,” Ava replied, “Eve is my twin sister.”
“I apologise,” the stranger laughed embarrassed, “It’s nice to meet you Ava, I am Ricky, Ricky Bailey.” He shook her hand softly and smiled again.
“it is very nice to meet you,” Ava replied and Ricky replied, “I think I should buy you a coffee, as an apology.” Ava’s eyebrows raised and she blushed a little.
“Sure, I know just the place,” Ava smiled, she was willing to give this guy a chance at least. When they sat down together, they spoke about their jobs, Ava spoke of being a doctor and Ricky was impressed. Ricky explained he worked in a bar as a mixologist and that she needed to visit his bar. Ava agreed to come tonight after her shift and Ricky was delighted. Ava also explained she was single when Ricky asked and that she had just come out of a serious relationship. Ricky was very understanding and suggested that it was time for Ava to meet someone new. He’d winked as he said this and Ava admired his confidence. Soon Ava had to leave to go to work and she and Ricky exchanged numbers. She liked Ricky Bailey already, he was smart, witty and handsome and there was something mysterious about him.
Ricky was definitely an enigma and it wasn’t in the way Ava thought. Ricky had a deep and dark secret. He was a vampire. Ricky loved the smell of beautiful woman and also the taste. Ava looked delicious and he hoped one day to get a taste of her. But for now, a local girl would do, one he didn’t know the name of, nor did he care to. All he knew was that she was willing. But one day, he was hoping this local girl would be someone exactly like Ava. Later that night, Ava arrived at Waylon’s Haunt with butterflies in her stomach. She hadn’t been on a date in a while and had nervously decided on what to wear. She missed the easiness of being in a relationship and disliked first dates. She spotted Ricky behind the bar working. He looked up and smiled at her as she arrived.
She walked near him and he said, “What can I get you?”
“Something strong,” Ava replied, “It’s been a long day at work.” Ricky smiled and began to make Ava a cocktail.
Ava sat down at the bar and waited for a cocktail.
She watched Ricky work and found herself attracted to him. When her cocktails were ready she had a taste and complimented Ricky’s skills. He then explained he’d come see her soon and had a few minutes of his shift left. Ava felt happy for the first time in months and enjoyed some freedom from her work. She had become even more of a workaholic since her breakup from Gabriel. But now she was determined to enjoy herself and get to know the elusive Ricky Bailey. When Ricky finished his shift, he came over to Ava and they both spoke about work.
After a while he commented on Ava’s appearance,
“You look stunning,” he said and Ava blushed.
The music was loud and they could barely hear one another. Ricky leaned forward to whisper into Ava’s ear, “I am glad you came.” Ava nodded and over the noise shouted “Me too, this is just what I needed.” Ricky took her hands in his in reply and asked her to dance. They danced together for a few moments, their bodies touching and soon Ava explained she needed to head home. Two hours had passed since she’d arrived and she was on early shift tomorrow. Ricky understood entirely and offered to walk her home. On the walk home, they spoke a lot more and enjoyed one another’s company. When they reached Ava’s apartment Ava said, “I had a great time.” Ricky replied,
“Me too. Can we do this again sometime? I would like to see you again.”
Ava’s heart raced with excitement and she answered, “It’s a date.” Ricky agreed to text Ava to meet up again and before he left he gave her a soft and lingering goodbye kiss. It made Ava’s heart skip a beat. Ricky left the building and Ava went to catch up on her sleep, but little did she know the danger she would be in...
