You’ve reached the Martins’ residence. May I know who’s speaking?” Mr. Adams answered the first phone call of the day.
“O my! Is this Mr. Adams?” a voice of a woman answered.
“Yes, who is this?”
The woman laughed, “It is I, Viviane James. Do you still remember me?”
Another day for the Martins’ household. Aerith was checking on the stock food supply. “We’re almost out… got to go grocery shopping then!” “Mr. Adams! It’s almost the end of the month so…”
“I know Ms. Laurie… here’s money for the supply you’ll need to buy.”
“Thanks!”
“Hey! What’s up?” Lora added.
“I’m going to the shop to buy some food… please cover me while I’m gone. I won’t be long!” Aerith smiled.
Lora chuckled, “sure!”
“By the way Ms. Laurie… I have some other errands for you. Is it okay?” Mr. Adams asked.
“Yeah sure!”
“Mr. Adams didn’t give me much... but I must learn how to budget! And with all these errands, I might get home late in the afternoon… the master will be pissed off! But will he? Nah… nevermind!” Aerith was talking to herself while walking.
“Talking that much to yourself is unhealthy, Annie.” A voice said.
Annie looked behind her and saw Daniel, smiling irresistibly.
“DANIEL! WHAT A SURPRISE!” Aerith shrieked.
Daniel chuckled, “Isn’t it? Long time no see Annie! What’s up?”
“Oh… some household errands… how about you? What’s up?”
“Just roaming around… I’m kind of bored in the house. Can I tag along?”
“Yeah sure! It’ll be fun to have a company…”
and so... ... ... ... ... ... “I’m tired…” Aerith sighed.
“But it was fun to hang out with you…”
“Really? We didn’t even do much!”
“say, you still got time?”
“why did you say so?”
“How about if I treat you?”
“to what?”
“snacks.”
“I guess I still have time but you already treated me lunch… that’s too much already”
“I insist…” He smiled.
“Oh no! not that smile again!” Aerith thought.
“How’s your food?” Daniel asked.
“Splendid!” she answered.
“That’s too formal for an answer!” Daniel chuckled.
“well… it is delicious! Thanks…”
“No problem… Well, I would definitely want to impress the person I like.”
She flushed, “SERIOUSLY!”
He laughed. “Bon appétit!”
“Welcome home and good evening, Master.” Lora greeted Alexander.
“Where’s Annie?”
“Sir?”
“That dense comrade of yours… she’s usually here at this time, cleaning the staircase.”
“Looking for Ms. Laurie, sir?” Mr. Adams added with a clever look, “Well, that’s a rare case!”
“Are you making fun of me Mr. Adams?” Alexander flushed.
Lora stared at him, puzzled.
“She went downtown for some errands…”
“She’s late.” Alexander said. “I’m almost hungry.”
Aerith suddenly arrives, panting. “GOOD EVENING!”
“I’m hungry…” Alexander glared at her.
“Dinner right away sir!” she answered.
He left.
“What took you so long Annie?” Lora asked.
“I never expected that each errand would take much time! I’m not even done with all…”
“It’s okay…” Mr. Adams said, “You can continue tomorrow… sorry for that.”
“It’s part of the job, isn’t it?” Aerith giggled.
“WHAT A TIRING DAY!” Aerith lazed on her bed.
“Yes… yes, indeed.” Lora sighed.
“But it was fun.”
“Really?” Lora was baffled.
“YOU WENT ON A DATE?” Lora barked.
“DATE?! NO!!!” Aerith shrieked.
“Then, what was that?”
“Running around errands with a friend… he’s really fun to be with, you know.” Aerith said.
“Well, Daniel is SPECIAL , isn’t he?” Lora teased.
Aerith flushed.
“You were even hesitant to leave him before… you must have been hooked!” Lora chuckled.
“NO! It’s not like that!!! ” Aerith insisted.
“Don’t you like him?”
“As a friend… I do like him but…”
“How about the master?” Lora suddenly blurted out.
“What? What’s with the sudden change of topic?” Aerith was puzzled.
“Nothing… But you do like Daniel, right?”
“yeah… I like Daniel. He’s such a nice guy.” Aerith smiled.
“By the way master, early this morning, right after you left for work, I received a phone call from Ms. James.” Mr. Adams told Alexander.
“Viviane?” Alexander was surprised.
“Yes sir. She would like to meet you tomorrow if you’re available. And this is her phone number…........................”
“I’ll meet her then. It’s been a while…”
“Good morning sir!” Aerith eagerly greeted. Alexander stared coldly at her, and then he walked away.
“See you later then!” Aerith chuckled.
“The master didn’t eat his breakfast… he must be in a hurry.” Lora said.
“Mrs. Martins seems worried, aye?” Aerith teased.
“ANNIE!” Lora flushed.
“Good morning, girls! Are you done with your morning duties?” Mr. Adams greeted.
“Yes!” Aerith answered.
“Almost…” Lora added.
“I’ll be off for those errands now… I won’t be longer than I was… I promise!” Aerith smiled.
“First, deliver these papers to this lounge… Who would’ve guessed that the master’s got tons of partners!” she thought.
“Excuse me, Is Mr. Samley here?”
“You’ve got an appointment, miss?”
“No, not really… I’m here to deliver these papers to him.”
“Oh! These… Thank you!”
She went out the lounge.
“Three to go!” she murmured.
“Hey!” a familiar voice called out.
“DANIEL! IT’S YOU AGAIN!” Aerith shouted.
“Hello Annie! I’m on my way to the gym, jogging… Errands?”
“Yep.”
“Well… mind if I accompany you again?”
“But the gym… you… wait… you said…” she stuttered.
“I insist…” he smiled.
She flushed, “crabsticks!”
Alexander waited inside a well known dive lounge where he and Viviane decided to meet.
“Sorry to have kept you waiting, Xander.” A voice called.
There stood in front of him a lovely young lady.
“Hey! How are you?” she smiled.
“I’ve been good, Viviane…”
“Well… it’s Vixen now but you’re still allowed to call me like that.” She chuckled.
“I won’t take much of your time… I know you’re such a busy guy. Well, you see, my dance club’s opening next week and I want you to come on that special day.”
“I’ll try…”
“O please do… for your childhood friend!” she pleaded.
“I’ll try Viviane…”
“There’s no office on that day… it’s a holiday. Are you going on a date then?”
“No.”
“Then, what are you up to?”
“Nothing.”
“Then, you’ll come…”
“Maybe.”
“XANDER!”
“Fine.”
She chuckled, “Gotcha!”
“I’ll be off now… Bye!”
He just nodded.
“And yeah… you can bring your date if you want to… I still have my eyes on you, remember that! And you know the condition you must satisfy to make me give up on you.” she shouted back, “Bye!”
He was driving back home when he saw Annie outside an establishment. To his surprise, he was with a guy.
He suddenly felt mad, so mad about such scene without having a logical explanation on why this is happening.
“Flirting and lazing during work time?” he was quite furious for such.
“This is the last one… thanks for accompanying me.” Aerith told Daniel.
“Sure… I’ll be off now… bye!” Daniel said.
“ANNIE LAURIE!” the master shouted.
Aerith was surprised, “MASTER!”
“Get in.” he ordered.
When they reached home, he started reprimanding her.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“I’m not doing anything wrong sir! I was running errands…”
“You were clearly flirting and lazing around…”
“I’m NOT!”
“It’s obvious! I saw you…”
“It’s not what you’re thinking!”
“Stop denying things…”
“SERIOUSLY, MR. ALEXANDER MARTINS! GROW UP, WILL YOU?!” she shrieked and walked away.
“You no good woman! I’m not done with you! You’ll surely deal with this!” he shouted back and stomped his way to his room.
Mr. Adams and Lora at that time were eavesdropping at a corner.
“What do you think is going on, Mr. Adams?” Lora worriedly asked.
“I don’t know… I don’t know…” Mr. Adams chuckled lightly.
“why are you laughing?”
“well… it’s been a while since I last saw the master like this…” Mr. Adams walked away.
“Could it be… that…” Lora thought.
“THAT IMMATURE GERBIL! AAAAA!” she shrieked.
“Gerbil? are you okay?” Lora asked.
“AAARGH! He ruined my day, again! But no worries Lora… I won’t lose.” She grinned.
“Are you with Daniel again?”
Aerith flushed.
“Yes… yes you were.” Lora giggled.
“That gerbil misunderstood everything! He thinks I’m flirting and lazing around… he’s so immature! And besides, regarding flirting, I’m not under his jurisdiction.” Aerith pouted.
“Could it be… that the master really likes Annie? Could it be that he’s jealous?” Lora thought.
“You went silent for a while… you okay?” Aerith asked.
“Never better!” Lora smiled.
“By the way, the next Sunday will be a holiday and I heard from Mr. Adams that we’re given a day off. If this is true, then I’m going back home to take care of mom. How about you, Annie?”
“I don’t know…” Aerith shrugged, “My family doesn’t reside in this city.”
“You’re from…”
“Hidden Springs… pretty far, right?” Aerith sighed.
“Don’t you miss them?”
“I do… but it would be better if I don’t go home.”
“Why? That’s sad!” Lora said.
“I know… but it’s better this way. Trust me on this.”
“Annie…”
“Sorry Lora… I don’t want to confuse you but some things are just better left unsaid.”
“I respect your decision.” Lora smiled, “How about if you come to my house?”
“Is it okay?”
“Mom and my little siblings would be delighted to see a friend!”
“How about your dad?”
“Uhmm…” Lora paused for a while, “Dad is a terrible part of our life. He left mom when she started getting sick. He was too in love with his vices. That’s how I summarize stuffs.”
“sorry…” Aerith said.
“It’s okay… So, you’re in?”
“I’m looking forward for it.”
On the other hand, Alexander was busy organizing his planner.
“Sunday… Viviane’s party.” He wrote.
“Sunday…”
Time flew so fast and it was already Saturday. The girls are busy preparing their things for they will be leaving before night comes.
“Will it be okay if I borrow your dress?” Aerith shyly asked.
“SURE! You’d look too formal with your white outfit!” Lora chuckled.
“Ms. Laurie…” Mr. Adams suddenly barged in.
“Mr. Adams! We’ll be off in a while…” Lora said.
“Pardon me but Ms. Laurie isn’t given the chance to spend the day off.”
“WHAT?!” Aerith shouted.
Aerith, very mad, stomped her way to the masters’ office.
“IT IS MY RIGHT TO HAVE A DAY OFF!” she shrieked.
“but you still have your offense you need to correct.” The master answered.
“WHAT?!”
“I’m giving you a task and if you do this right, you’ll be forgiven.”
“AS IF I SINNED!”
“stop shouting! I’m still your master remember that.”
She, with her fists clenched, shut her mouth.
“You’re going to… attend a… party… with me” he stuttered.
“party… with… you… WHAT?!!” she shrieked.
“Mr. Adams, tell Lora that she may leave now. Annie shall remain here If she stays here waiting, i'll cancel her day off.” He told Mr. Adams.
“Certainly sir.” he replied.
“Why on earth did you do that?” Aerith asked.
“First of all, I did a lot of thinking before choosing YOU as my escort…”
“Seriously, you did?”
“you are the only person who she doesn’t know…”
“she?”
“Viviane…”
“who’s Vivi?” she calmed down a little.
“Vivi?!” he raised his brow. “Listen, you have to pretend that you’re going out with me.”
“Wait… WHAT?!!! What if I refuse?”
“You can’t…” he glared.
“How about Lora?” Aerith asked.
“she knows Lora.”
“Your club girls?”
“WHAT?”
“none?” Aerith looked sarcastic. “Other girls?”
“I never settled in a relationship…”
She went silent for a while.
“You’re a newcomer so she doesn’t know you…”
“Are you trying to avoid Vivi? Or perhaps make her jealous?”
“Why are you making up names?” he sighed. “Well… it’s better if I don’t stick around Viviane that much.”
“Then just don’t attend. I’m not going… you can’t force me.”
“Even if I fire you?”
“can you do that?” she asked.
“I can.”
“Well… that would be your worst decision ever! Sorry but I won’t attend that party, not with YOU.” she walked out of the room.
“Why on earth did I even…. “ he thought.
“Aren’t you going to attend the party with master?” Mr. Adams asked.
“I don’t understand why I have to.” She said, “my day off is ruined!”
“He’s just shy of asking but he needs your help.”
“What? But… why does he need to attend if he’s avoiding Vi… Vi… Victoria?”
“Viviane… Let me tell you a story then…”
“I was in my mid 20s when I served the Martins. Yes, I’ve been serving this family even before the young master was born. His parents were an amazing couple but a tragedy shook them. After giving birth to the young master, his mother died. His father after a year remarried, left all his riches in Bridgeport to the young master, and decided to move to Sunset Valley with his new family. He thinks that seeing the young master was a pain for he was reminded of his past wife. So, I took care of the young master with the consent of both his parents’ families. At present, though not obvious, they’re silently watching over us… He was 7 when he met Miss Viviane James who was our neighbor. She was a sweet, playful, and honest young girl… They grew up together. It was nearing the high school graduation when the young master met Miss Viviane’s cousin, Miss Hyacinth Cloves, which was the girl he loved. He didn’t know that Miss Viviane had feelings for her. I knew about this because Miss Viviane told me such… After seeing that he fell for her cousin who was indeed a lady unlike her, she was hurt and decided to enter modeling which was a huge contrast to her personality. And so she became really LADY-LIKE but the young master’s eyes were still on her cousin. After Miss Clover’s death, she tried her best on wooing the master. She became very different and insensitive. The master was mad because of this change. She even called her cousin a huge parasite. This made the master even mad but still, he cares for Miss James. After their confrontation, Ms. James left for Riverview. That’s why now, after years, he wasn’t hesitant to meet her. He wants to see her. Ask her how she is doing. She still is his friend after all. And regarding the avoiding thing you’re saying… I believe that Miss Viviane must have reopened the TOPIC. That is the thing the master is avoiding. He doesn’t want to ruin his relationship with Viviane which is quite ruined already. I believe he wants to save their friendship.” Mr. Adams narrated.
“Oh… you do know a lot Mr. Adams…”
“Shall I take that as a compliment or an insult?”
The two giggled.
“But… will this really save their friendship? This might make her more furious.”
“Even I can tell… if she sees you, she’ll truly stop this madness.”
“I don’t get it…”
“Soon enough you’ll understand… I can’t fully explain things… there are still secrets I don’t know.”
“Oh…”
“Ms. Laurie, you love Lora, am I right?”
“I do…”
“If for example you fought over a guy… and you truly care for her, what would you do? Will you try to save your friendship? Will you leave her alone?”
“I…”
“Think about it…”
She walked back to her room.
“Oh young master… that was such a hasty decision… but an effective excuse.” He thought. “Have a great evening sir…” Mr. Adams greeted the master before he left. The master’s face was painted without emotions as usual. “Hey! Xander! You came!” Viviane greeted, “Thanks for coming…”
He didn’t answer.
“Oh… no date? That’s UNUSUAL for you.” Viviane chuckled slyly.
“Actually…” a voice added.
“He has. And he was so rude to leave me outside! Naughty little scoundrel…” she went near them.
People stared at her as she walked.
The DJ stopped playing. Only her footsteps and the chattering of people can be heard.
Viviane’s eyes widened.
“You’re supermodel Vixen, Ms. James, right?” she spoke.
She stared at the DJ who stopped playing the music.
With a smile, she shouted "Why stop that beaty music? Let's get this party started! Shall we?"
