Lisa walked in and looked around. The office was small but looked like it got a lot of business judging by the people inside. She walked up to the reception desk and was greeted by the receptionist.
"Hello may I help you?" The receptionist asked.
"I don't have an appointment but I need to hire an investigator." Lisa answered.
"That's all right. Mr White is just finishing up with a client but if you take a seat I can have him see you next."
"Thank you very much." Lisa said. Lisa walked over and sat down. She didn't want her mind to wander so she decided to take a book off of the table and attempt to read it. As she was reading, Mr. White walked up to her. "Hello." Elijah said. Lisa looked up at him. "I'm sorry, did I startle you?"
"No, you just caught me off guard. Are you the investigator?"
?Yes I am, are you one?? Lisa asked.
?Yes I am. My name Is Elijah White, I own this firm. So what ever it is you are searching to find, I guarantee you that I can locate it.?
?That is definitely what I am looking for, results.?
?All right, follow me into my office and you can give me all of the details.?
Lisa got up, put the book back on the shelf and followed Mr. White into his office. Once in the office, Mr. White directed Lisa to the seat directly in front of his desk.
?First things first, I need some information from you in order to make your file.? Mr. White said.
?Okay not a problem, whatever you need.? Lisa said.
?What?s your name?? Mr. White asked.
?Oh I must seem so rude. My name is Lisa Dellhigh.?
?No, not your fault at all, my receptionist was supposed to have you fill out some papers before you saw me but I was on my way out of office so I am taking care of all the paper work.? Elijah reassured her.
?Okay? Lisa said.
?Ms. or Mrs. Dellhigh??
?Ms. Dellhigh.?
?Okay Ms. Dellhigh please let me know why you are here.?
?I?m trying to find my daughter?s father.? Lisa replied sadly.
?When was last time that you saw him? Did he go missing or did he just leave??
?That last time I saw him was two weeks ago when he baled on our wedding. Since, he has changed his number and he is selling his house but no one seems to know where he is. I mean no one is telling me where he is. He is missing but definitely not by foul play. He left. I spoke with the realtor today and he informed me that he is to have no contact with me. I have a daughter by this man. I need some answers.? Lisa explained and began to feel light headed.
?Did you by any chance get the realtor?s name?? Mr. White asked.
?Yes, his name is Andre Steele.? Lisa answered.
?And what?s your daughter?s father?s name??
?Tony Waters.?
?And where exactly was his last residence??
?500 Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain.?
?Does he have family?? Mr. White asked.
Lisa got up to look out of the window.
?Yes, I spoke with his sister, Monique Murray about an hour ago and she says she knows nothing.? Lisa answered. Again she felt dizzy but this time Mr. White noticed.
?Ms. Dellhigh are you all right?? You?re not looking too good.?
?I?m a little light headed but I think it?s just my nerves. It?s been a lot to deal with and I haven?t eaten today.?
?Do you need anything? Maybe some water?? Mr. White asked.
?No, I?ll be okay.?
?All right let?s wrap this up so that you can go and get some rest. I have enough information for today. If I have any more questions, I will call you, just fill out this information sheet and I?ll get right on it.? Mr. White said.
?Thank you so much. Oh one more thing, the price.? Lisa said.
?The fee is $45 an hour. How it works is, I work on your case 3 hours every day or every other day depending on how fast the case is moving and the how fast you want results. Judging by your anxiousness you want results like yesterday so I will be working on your case 3 hours daily until I get you the answers that you are looking for. I guarantee it will take no more than a month. If it takes longer then that or if I foresee it lasting longer I will inform you and give you the option to continue or stop the case. You do not pay until the case is over and if I do not get you the results that you are looking for then I will only charge you half of the hourly rate for my time and yours. Seems reasonable?? Mr. White explained.
?That seems reasonable enough.?
?Are you okay to make it home safely??
?Yes I will be fine. I just need some rest.? Lisa said as she walked out the door.
As Lisa walked to her car she was feeling worse but she called Cassy on the way and told her to meet her at her house. She prayed that she made it home safely. Once Lisa reached home Cassy was waiting for her. Lisa got out of the car to greet her.
"Hey girl, you don?t look too good. Did you eat?? Cassy asked.
?No I didn?t eat all day. And I feel so lightheaded and dizzy.? Lisa answered.
?It is 4:45 pm and you have not eaten. No wonder you are feeling lightheaded. Come, I?m going to make you something to eat.?
?I know, I have just been running around all day you know. I forgot all about eating.? Lisa answered.
Cassy walked into the house, opened the refrigerator and said, ?I know but you have to take care of yourself. Don?t let yourself get sick because of that dude. What would you like to eat??
?I know, I know. I would take some pancakes if you don?t mind.? Lisa said.
?Pancakes? It is going on dinner time and you want some pancakes? You don?t even eat pancakes.? Cassy said.
?I know but I just have a taste for it.? Lisa said while sitting at the table.
?You must be sick or something.? Cassy said.
Cassy made the pancakes and served Lisa while she sat at the table. Cassy thought that Lisa was starting to look worse and was hoping that once she ate that she would feel better. While they were at the table eating, Lisa just passed out. Her face fell smack into her plate of pancakes. Cassy was shocked and scared at the same. She ran to the phone to call 911, she didn?t know what else to do. She was so nervous and was just hoping that it wasn?t serious. She has heard stories of people literally dying from a broken heart but of course the doctors? labeled it as unknown. When she called they asked her all sorts of questions and told her to move Lisa from the table and lay her on the floor if she could. They told her to put a cold compress on her head. They were on their way. Cassy did what they told her to do and finally the EMS arrived. Cassy went to let him in, explaining the situation to him as they walked to the kitchen. He bought a wheelchair in with him.
?So you put a cold compress on her head?? The paramedic asked.
?Yes I did.? Cassy answered. The paramedic checked her vitals and said that her breathing was good but they needed to get her to the hospital as soon as possible.
They got Lisa into the wheelchair and as they were moving her she woke up. She was disoriented and didn?t know what happened or how she got into the wheelchair.
?What is going on?? Lisa asked.
?You passed out while eating. I called 911 and now you are on your way to the hospital.? Cassy explained.
?But I?m fine, I don?t need a hospital, I was just exhausted.? Lisa said.
?Ma?am, you really need to see a doctor and I have to take you to the hospital.? The paramedic said to her firmly.
?Just listen to him Lisa and follow directions. You have Tanya to think about.? Cassy said hoping that she would comply.
?All right fine, I will go.? Lisa said.
They got her into the ambulance and headed to Grady Hospital. Cassy waited in the waiting room while Lisa was being examined. They took blood and urine first to try to find out what caused the dizziness. While Lisa sat in the examination chair she was feeling a little nervous because she too was curious. When the doctor came in she had a sonogram cart with her. At that point Lisa was really curious. The doctor placed the cart next to Lisa. ?Hello Ms. Dellhigh, my name is Dr. Smith and I will be your doctor this evening.? Dr. Smith said.
?Hello. Did you guys find out what?s wrong with me?? Lisa asked.
?Well we did a numerous amount of test, including a pregnancy test.? Dr. Smith said and Lisa interrupted her.
?Why did you do a pregnancy test? I can tell you right now that I?m not pregnant.? Lisa said.
?It?s just standard procedure in all females. A lot of different things can cause dizziness or an episode of passing out. However, your test did come back positive.?
?Positive for what?? Lisa heart began to race.
?You are indeed pregnant. This is why I have bought this cart in here. Do you have any children Ms. Dellhigh?? Dr. Smith asked.
Lisa was in total shock. Pregnant, how can I be pregnant? She thought to herself. While in her own little world she did not hear anything the doctor said after ?You are indeed pregnant?.
?Ms. Dellhigh are you okay?? Dr. Smith asked. Lisa snapped out of it.
?I?m sorry what did you say?? Lisa asked.
?I said that you are pregnant and do you have any children??
?Yes, I have a 6 year old daughter.?
?Okay so you know what this cart is then??
?Yes I know.? ?Ms. Dellhigh when was your last menstrual??
?That?s what is strange because I?ve been getting it. I just had it three weeks ago.? Lisa explained.
?Was it a normal period?? Dr Smith asked.
?Well actually no it wasn?t, it lasted for maybe 3 days when I usually have it for 6 days. I didn?t think anything of it because it was a lot going on at that time.?
?Well we are going to see just how far along you are.?
?Okay.? Lisa said. She was saying to herself that this could not be happening to her.
Dr. Smith took the sonogram and was able to determine how far along Lisa actually was.
?Well judging by the sonogram, you are more than 3 ½ months, about a week away from 4 months it seems.? Dr. Smith said.
?But I have not had any symptoms or anything.? Lisa said.
?Maybe you have but as you said it?s been a lot going on and you just overlooked it. Today is a perfect example, you thought that you were just tired when in reality you are very dehydrated and you didn?t eat. What I?m going to do is start you on an IV to get your fluids back up, get you something to eat and I would like to keep you overnight to start your prenatal care, that is if you are keeping the baby but I must tell you that because of how far along you are there are not many options for you. Do you have anyone that can care for your daughter??
"She's at her aunt?s house. I don?t believe in abortions and as far along as I am I would never be able to kill my baby anyway. I will just have to deal.? Lisa said.
?Well I?m happy that you are not going to abort. I will get your paperwork started and get you a more comfortable bed.? Dr. Smith said.
?Thank you so much doctor. Can my friend come in with me??
?No problem. Sure she can come in. I will go and get her and someone will be in shortly to start that IV line.? Dr. Smith said as she walked out of the door.
Cassy came in and sat down. ?Is everything okay?? she asked.
?No. I?m almost 4 months pregnant.? Lisa said.
?What?? Cassy could not believe her ears.
?Yeah I know, I said the same thing. Plus I?m really dehydrated and they are keeping me over night. I?m so happy Monique picked Tanya up from school and when did you get your hair done?? Lisa said.
?Wow another baby. Are you okay? I know that this have to be breaking you up inside. Is Tanya staying the night? Because if not I can go get her after I leave here. Girl I decided not to go to work and I went to the salon. You like it?? Cassy said.
?I?ll be okay. Tanya is staying the night but I need you to call Monique for me and let her know what happened. And yeah I like it better then the last hairdo.?
?Okay I will go call right now. Do you want her to know that you are pregnant??
?Yes but tell her not to mention it to Tanya, I want to tell her.? Lisa said.
?All right, I will be right back.? Cassy went to use the pay phone in the hospital's lobby. She called Monique.
?Hello.? Monique answered.
?Hey Monique, this is Cassy.? Cassy said.
?Hey Cassy, is everything all right? I see you are calling from the hospital.? Monique asked curiously.
?Lisa passed out at home so I called 911 and they bought her to the hospital.?
?Oh my gosh, is she okay??
?Yes she is fine. She is very dehydrated and almost 4 months pregnant but don?t tell Tanya, she wants to tell her.? Cassy explained.
?She is what? Wow. Did she know or did she just find out??
?She just found out. They are keeping her overnight for observation and to start her prenatal care. She just thought that it was stress and she hasn?t been eating that much.?
?Tell her not to worry about Tanya, I will take good care of her and she just take care of herself over there. Send my love and tell her whatever she needs, don?t hesitate to ask.? Monique said worried. ?I?ll definitely let her know. Monique please do us all a favor and find your brother. She needs him, especially now, with this new baby.? Cassy pleaded.
?I know and I will do the best that I can.? Monique answered truthfully.
?Thank you Monique. Call me for anything.?
?No problem. Speak to you later.? Monique said as she hung up.
Monique?s Place?
Tanya was in the other room playing while Monique?s husband, Mark was standing right there when she got the phone call.
?Is everything okay?? Mark asked.
?No it?s not. Lisa is in the hospital because she passed out and she just found out that she is 3 ½ months pregnant.? Monique answered.
?He has to tell her Mo. She deserves to know. His daughter deserves to know, not to mention she deserves to spend time with her father.? Mark said.
?I know baby but how do I get it through to him? I am trying to respect my brother?s wishes but it is causing more bad then good.? Monique said in tears.
?You have to get through to him. He needs to realize that he is not helping them but instead, hurting them and now she?s pregnant. She can?t keep being stressed. It?s not good for the baby or her.? Mark said.
?I just don?t know how to make him change his mind but I?m going to try once more. Can you please keep an eye on Tanya until I return??
?Of course, you know I love that little girl and I must say she is pretty fond of me too.? He said with a smile. ?Thank you baby. I love you so much, you know that?? Monique said.
?Of course I know, this is why you married me. I love you too babe.? Mark said.
?I?ll be back as soon as I can.?
?Take your time because you are going to need time for this one.? Mark said.
Monique hugged him and headed upstairs to change her clothes.
At Tony?s?
Monique walked in while Tony was standing by the window. She stood there for a minute and just watched him. She knew that her brother was going through a lot himself but she had to try to make it easier on him and everyone else. She walked up and stood beside him. He looked at her and automatically knew that something was wrong.
?What?s wrong Monique?? Tony asked.
?How do you know that something is wrong?? Monique asked.
?Because it?s going on 8:30 and you are here. Now what?s wrong that you couldn?t just call me??
?Everything.? Monique answered in tears.
?Okay now you are scaring me. Spill it.? Tony said.
?Lisa is in the hospital.?
?Is she okay? What happened?? Tony asked very worried.
?She is very dehydrated and almost 4 months pregnant. They are keeping her over night.?
?She?s what??
?She?s pregnant with your baby.? Monique said sternly. Tony walked away. He was thinking about how much of a mess this all is. He really screwed everything up.
?You have to tell her. She needs you and she needs to know.? Monique said.
?I definitely can?t tell her now. What will we gain?? Tony said.
?What will you gain? You have a baby on the way Tony. A innocent living being. They need you right now.?
?It?s only going to end up in heartache.?
?There?s already heartache, theirs and yours. Yes I know that you are suffering in more ways then one. They should be here. She would want to be here. You need her just as much as she needs you. You need to do the right thing.?
?I can?t, I just can?t. I can?t do this to them.?
?I love you so very much but I?m giving you one week to make up your mind and if you do not decide to tell her then I will.? Monique said as she walked out the door. Tony watched Monique leave and in his heart he knew that she was right but, he had no time to think with his heart. The reality was that it was better this way. At least this is what he felt was right. He hated putting Monique in such a compromising position. He knew that it was not fair to her. His heart was sad and he stood by the window weeping. The next morning?
Monique dropped Tanya off at school and went to pay Lisa a visit after. When she arrived, Lisa?s doctor was in talking to her. Monique stood outside of the door and waited until the doctor was through.
?I?m going to release you Ms. Dellhigh but I want to see you again in three days for a follow-up visit. If you have any bleeding or if you are feeling extremely lightheaded like yesterday, please come back. I started you on your prenatal vitamins and I?m giving you a prescription for prenatal vitamins. Do you have any questions?? Dr. Smith said.
?Do you just work in the emergency room or do you work in the clinic as well?? Lisa asked.
?I?m sorry I didn?t tell you where your follow-up would be. You will see me in the hospital?s clinic.?
?Are you going to be my Obstetrician? Because I would really like to have you, you?re great.?
?Thank you so much. Since you want me then I will be your OB doctor. Do you have anyone to pick you up?? Dr. Smith said smiling.
?Yes, my best friend is coming with a change of clothes. She should be here any minute.? ?I?m leaving your papers here on the desk. It has your appointment on there. Remember, no stress. If you feel overwhelmed I want you to take a deep breath and go lay down.? Dr. Smith said.
?Not a problem. Thank you again Dr. Smith.? Lisa said.
?See you in three days.? She said as she walked out of the room. Once the doctor left, Monique walked in.
?Hey girlie, how are you feeling?? Monique asked.
?Hey Mo, what are you doing here? I feel better than yesterday that?s for sure.? Lisa said.
?I figured you would need some support. My brother?s not here but you do have family.?
?Thank you. It?s hard you know. Now I have a baby on the way, a 6 year old daughter who loves her father dearly and no Tony. What exactly do I tell my kids?? Lisa said.
?I know and I?m trying my best to make everything right for you guys. I know that I don?t know what you are going through but I can imagine and I promise you that I will try my best to make it easy.?
?Everything is happening so fast. Yesterday I went to an investigator.?
?An investigator? To find Tony??
?Yes. It?s going to cost me a lot but now I definitely need to find him. Now he has two babies on the way.?
?Two? Are you having twins??
?Not that I know of but I?m talking about Kenya, his girlfriend.? Lisa said.
?Oh yeah I forgot about his so-called girlfriend. I don?t believe that for a second Lisa. And exactly how much is this investigator going to cost you??

?What, are you crazy?? Monique asked.
?No, that is how bad I need to find your brother.? Lisa said firmly.
?Keep your money because you will need it to buy a new house because your house is not big enough for another child. I will help you find my brother. And trust me we will find him.?
?I know I do need another house but when I went to the investigator yesterday I didn?t know that I was pregnant.?
?Okay so do you agree that I help you find him?? Monique said.
?Okay I?ll agree. I need to call Mr. White.?

?No, I will call him when I get home and I need to be trying to call a realtor so that I can sell my house and buy a new one.? Lisa said.
?Now that I can help you with. You just relax and I will make your errands for you today.? Monique replied. ?Thank you so much Monique. You are such a huge help.? Lisa said as she hugged Monique.
?We?re family there is no need to thank me. I love you like you were my blood sister.?
?I feel the same way.?
Just then Cassy walked in.
?What?s all the hugging about? Don?t leave a sister out now.? Cassy said smiling.
?Stop being jealous, no hugs for you. Get pregnant and maybe just maybe I will give you a hug.? Monique laughing
?Hmmm let me see. Nah I?ll pass on that one. You can keep your hugs.?
?Well let me go run those errands. Lisa I will bring Tanya by after she gets out of school, I know you miss your baby girl.? Monique said.
?Yes I do thank you. Call me if anything okay?? Lisa said
?I sure will. Later girls.? Monique said as she walked out the room. ?So are they releasing you?? Cassy asked.
?Yes she already did, my prescription is on the table. I was waiting on you with my clothes.? Lisa replied.
?I got them for you right here. I was surprised to see Monique here.?
?So was I and I don?t know I have this feeling that she is hiding something. I mean we?ve always been close and she has always been a sweetheart but something is different. I told her that I hired an investigator.?
?You hired an investigator? Are you nuts? I know that is costing you an arm and a leg and you really can?t afford that right now.?
?Funny thing is Monique told me almost the same thing. She said that would help me find Tony. She is even going to help me look for a new house because I have no room for a baby in my small house.? Lisa said as she was putting on her clothes
?Well that?s definitely true. And she is being nicer than usual, maybe she is hiding something. Let her help you though because maybe her conscience or her sympathy will lead you to Tony.? Cassy replied. ?We think too much alike because I was thinking the same exact thing. Come on let?s go. I have to stop by the pharmacy to fill this prescription and remind me to call Mr. White.? Lisa said.
?Who in the world is Mr. White?? Cassy asked.
?The investigator.?
?Oh okay no problem. Let?s pop this joint.? Cassy said as she walked out of the room. While in the car on the way to the pharmacy and then to Lisa?s home, she called Mr. White. She explained to him that she needed to end the case and he was very understanding. Since he had not yet started the case she did not have to pay him anything. She was very relieved by this because with the new baby she definitely did not have it. She just got a promotion but it was okay for her and Tanya but now with a third person it?s going to be a stretch. She was also thinking about the fact that she would soon have to go on maternity leave.
She didn?t understand how she will be four months pregnant within the next week and she did not know. She had gained some weight but then she just thought that it was from the first week after her disaster of a wedding. That first week she was so depressed she ate everything in sight. Still to be four months pregnant she looked good because her belly was not showing but she knew that when she started showing that her belly was just going to pop over night.
Once Lisa reached home, she checked the mail box. She reached in and pulled out what looked to be like a check but she was not expecting a check from anyone so she immediately opened it. When she opened the envelope and looked at the check she could not believe her eyes.
There was a check for $50,000. It didn?t have a return address on it and the check just said L&M corp. She so confused. Who would send her a check for this amount of money? ?Lisa are you okay? You look like you just seen a ghost and if so please let me know so I can be the first one in the car.? Cassy said joking.
?Take a look at this?? Lisa said as she handed Cassy the check. Cassy just looked at the check in shock.
?This is not for real is it?? Cassy asked.
?It looks like it but we can find out. Drive me to the bank please? While on the way I am giving Monique a call.?
?Let?s get going.?
?Let me just run in the house and take these pins out of my head from this bun, it?s driving me nuts.? Lisa said smiling.
?Okay, I?ll just wait out here but you better hurry because Tanya will be home soon.?

Lisa ran in the house and fixed her hair into a ponytail in less then five minutes then ran back out.
Lisa and Cassy walked into Wachovia bank. It was the bank that Lisa usually went to so she practically knew everyone there. She was hoping that the teller she normally went to was there, she looked around the bank but she did not see her so she went to another teller she used as well. When she walked to the desk the teller immediately said, ?Hello Ms. Dellhigh! How are you? How?s your little girl??
?Hey Diana! I?m okay, I just found out that I have a little one on the way. And little mama is fine.? Lisa replied.
?Wow a baby, that is so cool. How far along are you? It can?t be that far because girl you look good.? Diana asked.
?4 months next week.?
?What? Four months? You are joking right? When I was four months pregnant I looked like a house.? Diana said laughing.
?Nope I?m really four months and I doubt you looked like a house because you sure got your shape back.?
?Okay maybe not a house but I was definitely showing. What can I do for you today??
?I want to deposit this check into my account.? Lisa said as she handed Diana the check.
?Wow this is a hefty check you got there. Give me one second, a manager has to sign off on this. Nothing personal, it?s just standard procedure.?
?It?s okay I understand.?
Diana went to show the manager the check and explained to him that she needed assistance. When she returned the manager was with her.
?Hello Ms. Dellhigh. How are you today?? Marcus said.
?I?m okay Marcus and yourself?? Lisa answered.
?I?m good. I just need to get in contact with the other bank about this check, if you want you can have a seat in my office while you wait.?
?All right thank you.?
?Follow me.? He said as he walked to his office.
Lisa and Cassy followed Marcus into his office. They took a seat in front of his desk and watched as he called the bank. He was on the phone for about five minutes. When he got off he turned to Lisa and said, ?You are all set Ms. Dellhigh, it?s approved. I will deposit it personally for you. It will take a couple days to clear.?
?Thank you so much Marcus.? Lisa said.
?You are more then welcome.? He said.
Lisa and Cassy walked out and stunned that the check was indeed legit.
One month later?
Lisa told Tanya about the baby and she was thrilled that she was going to be a big sister. Monique found Lisa a realtor and she successfully found a much bigger house and sold her old house. She never found out where the check came from but was grateful for it. She was still looking for Tony and she would stop at nothing to find him. Her belly was now showing.
Monique gave Tony more than a week to tell Lisa and he never budged but now Monique had enough and she decided that for Lisa, the kids and Tony?s sake she was telling the truth?
Monique arrived on a Saturday at Lisa?s house unexpected. When Lisa answered the door and saw Monique she thought something was wrong.
?Hey Monique I?m surprised to see you here.? Lisa said.
?I know I wanted to surprise you.? Monique said.
?Surprise me with what?? Lisa asked.
?Is my niece here??
?Yes she?s upstairs playing. What?s going on??
?Is she dressed??
?Yes she's dressed.?
?Okay you two come with me, it?s time that the truth comes out. Don?t ask me any questions just get your stuff and let?s go. I?ll drive.? Monique said. Lisa was puzzled, she had no clue what Monique was talking about and she was acting very, very strange. But Lisa was going to respect her wishes and not ask any questions. She went upstairs and got Tanya and when she saw her aunt she was happy.
?Hi auntie Mo, are we going with you?? Tanya asked.
?Yes you are princess. Are you ready?? Monique replied.

When they pulled up to the place Lisa got out of the car after a half an hour long drive, stood in front of the building and turned to Monique very confused.
?Why are we at a hospital Mo?? Lisa asked very confused.
?You wanted to know where my brother was right?? Monique said.
?Yes.? Lisa said. ?Well today you get the answers to all of your questions. I hope you are prepared.? Monique said.
Lisa stood there looking up at the building very nervous, confused and in shock?
Lisa finally gets answers but will they be what she is prepared to hear?
Will Tony be upset with his sister for telling his secret or will he be happy to see Lisa and his daughter?
What exactly is Tony doing in at a hospital?
Will they live happily ever after or will Lisa never forgive Tony?
