Ava: You're what?
Liz: I'm pregnant.

Ava: You're what?
Liz: I'm pregnant.
Ava: You're kidding me.
Liz: Does it look like I'm kidding.
Ava: Well how far along?
Liz: About 3 months.
Ava: Who's is it.
Liz: Kent's of course. It was our last time together.
Johan already found out weeks ago. I told him I was pregnant hoping he wouldn't want me anymore. He knows it isn't his. At first he was really upset but then he said he wanted a heir. No matter if it isn't really his child. I don't know what to do. Ava: You need to grow a backbone that's what. You were always the weak one, always doing what everyone told you to do. Why is it so hard for you to stand up for yourself?
Liz: I'm not like you okay. I always needed someone.
Ava: No you didn't. You just let dad put that in your head so you'd never leave. You need to get out Liz. You need to get out and do your own thing. Now you have this baby. You can't possibly live here. I need to get you out of here.
Ava stayed over that night. Liz came and slept in the guest bedroom with her older sister like she did when they were little.
Ava didn't like her sister being a prisoner in her home. And to make things worse she was not even in love.
All the while, Liz was feeling the pressure of her sister's words. How could she raise a child with someone she didn't love and worse, it was not his. So for the past month, Ava went on searching. She was going to help her sister get out of that prison of a marriage and live her life. And she knew just how to do it. Ava: There he is Liccia. KENT! KENT!
She began waving her arms when she spotted the man playing outside. He was so into his music he could not hear her calling to him.
As she walked closer to him she began yelling again. He turned around and smiled at the red haired woman only for it to drift off as she came closer.
Kent: Sorry I thought you were someone else.
Ava: Eliz.. . . .
He looked at her curiously only for his eyes to brighten.
Kent: You're Ava. Liz's sister.
Ava: You know me?
Kent: Only through Liz. How is she? Is everything alright?
Ava: That's what I came to talk to you about.
Kent: If she's still married then there is nothing to discuss. She left me alone months ago. I just want to make her happy and if being with him...
Ava: That's just it. She's still married but she's not happy. At least not with him. She wants to be with you.
Kent: Then why is she still there. I told her I would take care of her. I love her.
Ava: I know you do. And she still loves you. You need to go to her.
Kent: I can't keep doing this. I can't be her side lover. I can't get my heart broken, not again.
Ava: Just go see her.
Ava wrote down the times to go to the house when Johan was gone.
The following day Kent drove up to the house. Just as Ava had said, Johan had already left for an overnight meeting. He rang the door bell. He couldn't stop tapping his foot as he waited.
Just as he was going to turn around, the door opened. It was Liz. His face lit up as he looked at her. Then they both looked at her stomach. She was now showing.
She tried to go back in and close the door but he yanked it back open. She walked into the foyer holding her stomach as he walked closer to her.
He placed his hands slowly on her stomach.
Kent: Is this why your sister told me I had to see you.
Liz: Ava?
Kent: Is it mine?
Liz: Yes [a tear fell down from her eye] I didn't want to keep it from you.
Kent: Come with me.
Liz: I can't
Kent: You can't or you don't want to.
Liz: I can't leave him. He is my husband.
Kent: But you don't love him. What is KEEPING you hear? Money?? What??
Liz: I have to do what's best for your father.
Kent: Your father? Your father doesn't give a care about you, otherwise he would see how miserable you are here. I love you. I want to marry you. I can give you more than he can, true love and commitment.
Liz began to cry.
Kent: What do YOU want Liz? Because I'm here. And I want you.
Liz: You have to go.
He walked out the door and sped off on his motorcycle, leaving her crying in the house.
Johan arrived home as usual.
Johan: Liz! LIZ!
The house was silent. There was a note on the mantel.
Johan,
I've lived my life being the respectful wife and daughter. Never questioning when I was told to do something. But as I sit here in this house, I realized that I don't want any of it anymore. I don't want to be the wife and daughter. To be the pawn for you and my father. I want to follow my heart. And yes, this may be destroying my father's estate, my inheritance, but I need to do what I want. And I don't want you. I am sorry for wasting the past years of your life when you could have found someone that honestly cared. But I must do what is best for me and my child.
Kent and Liz moved to a nicer place closer to town. She could fit her entire basement in the new apartment but it didn't matter. It was theirs. Johan never signed the divorce papers that were issued to him several times. But again, it didn't matter. Months later, Elden was born.
He was loved by both of his parents.
Kent: I'm not going to let anything happen to you.
One evening, just as they were putting Elden to bed there was a phone call.
Liz: Hello
Johan: Liz, it's Johan. Don't hang up. I need to see you. It's important.
Johan explained to Liz why she had to see him. She agreed for the following week.
Kent: Why did you agree to see him? He's up to know good.
Liz: It's important Kent.
Kent: I can't believe you are going to go there.
Liz: Nothing is going to happen Kent. I promise.
Kent: If you're not home by 6, I'm calling the police.
She laughed and kissed him softly.
Liz: Everything will be fine.
She sat in the living room of the old home.
It was silent for a while. Then the maid came in the to bring the tea.
Johan: I ordered your favorite.
Liz: I always hated tea.
Johan paused.
Johan: Well I didn't say I was the best husband.
Johan: Liz. When you left, I was angry with you.
Liz: Oh.
Johan: But I guess you had been running away from me since he were married. It was a matter of time before you would just leave. But I thought I could keep you here. And your relationship with Kent only solidified that you were not meant for me. I just didn't want to see it. I didn't want him to have you so I was not going to let you go.
Johan took a deep breath.
Johan: I am releasing you from your obligation to me.
Liz: What? Why now?
Johan: To be honest, I am not doing too well. The business is plummeting and I don't have the will to fight anymore. I have hurt you long enough. I don't need a wife anymore.
Johan: You have done more for me than anyone else. And all you ever wanted to do was be happy.
Liz: But why all this. Why now?
Johan didn't speak for a while.
Johan: My health is not doing too well. It has been that way for some time now. I just didn't want to tell you. I have been suffering and therefore, I wanted you to suffer. But I can't do this. I've signed the papers and left you half my estate in the my will. You can do whatever with it.
She watched him slowly get up. He kissed her softly on the cheek and left the room.
She sat there for a while. It was over. Just like that. She was free from this marriage. She read the papers over again, to not miss anything.
She then got up and walked around the house. She remembered each section of the house, each corner.
When she arrived home she drew herself a bath and stayed in the water to cry. But this time it was a cry of happiness. She hadn't notice that Kent had arrived back home with Elden. She soon heard them playing in the bedroom.
She laughed when she heard him giggle.
She put on some clothes and went into the nursery.
Kent had just laid him down to rest.
Kent: I didn't realize you were home. What happened?
Liz: He granted me the divorce.
Kent: What? Why?
She explained the entire conversation to him.
Liz smiled at him.
Kent: Well........what do you want to do now?
She placed her hands on his face and kissed him.
Liz: Love you.
