When Saturday night arrived, Penny found herself sitting at the bar of Crush, one of Bridgeport's most exclusive clubs where the charity event was taking place. She had decided to go with her head rather than her heart, though a part of her still longed to be at Tim's party.
"Another time," she thought to herself.
Suddenly a tap on the shoulder interrupted her thoughts. "A beautiful woman such as yourself shouldn't be sitting alone. Would you care to dance?"
Penny's jaw dropped. She couldn't believe it. She was standing face-to-face with Matthew Hamming. Matthew Hamming was an extremely well-known actor. He had been the star of countless films and had an incredibly large fan-base. He was also very handsome. Penny was filled with butterflies, but she maintained her composure.
"That would be lovely," she answered sweetly.
Matthew gently glided her across the dance floor.
"You're an actress, aren't you?" he asked her with a smile.
"Aspiring," Penny replied. "How can you tell?"
"You've got the looks for it," he beamed.
Penny felt her face grow warm. It was as if she were in a dream. They danced for a while in a pleasant silence, enjoying each other's presence. His hands felt warm and comforting and his eyes never left her's. "Listen, I'm having a few people over tomorrow afternoon. Why don't you come?" He stopped dancing and kissed her on the hand. "I'd love to see you again. Here's my number." he said, slipping her a piece of paper. Penny watched him leave the dance floor in disbelief.
"What a gentleman," she thought. Penny needed some air. She went outside and let the cool night breeze encompass her. She looked up to see a small, balding man walking toward her.
"Enjoying your evening?" the man asked.
"Very much so," Penny said politely.
"I'm Stanley Peterson. I'm the casting director at Thimble Studios," he began. Penny had neither heard of him or the studio. "You've got a great look. There's an open audition tomorrow for a new TV show. We're looking for a supporting actress- You should try out." He handed her his card.
"The address of the studio is on the back. 12 noon sharp." He walked away leaving Penny in shock. The night was fertile with promise. When Penny went back inside, a waiter lead her to the VIP section where a tall, skinny man was waiting for her. Penny had no idea why the man had asked her to join him.
"Hello," Penny greeted him hesitantly.
"Please, dear. Have a seat," he sneered with a grin. His fire red hair was slicked back and his beady eyes seamed to undress her, leaving Penny feeling vulnerable. "I saw you dancing with Matthew earlier and I had to have a piece of you for myself. I am Wesley Von Berg... Maybe you've heard of me?" Penny sure had. Wesley Von Berg was the biggest film director in Bridgeport. He had directed big hits such as "Dude, Where's My Omniplant?" and "Sims in the City".
Penny couldn't contain herself. "YOU'RE Wesley Von Berg?! It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm Penny. Penny Labelle," she replied enthusiastically.
"Charmed," he chuckled, slyly draping his arm across the back of her seat. Penny was too excited to notice. "Listen Penny babe, I can make you a big star. I have the connections and you got the looks. Swing by my place tomorrow afternoon," He slipped her his number before getting up to leave. "We'll find a way to expose you..." he smirked as he slithered away. The next morning, Penny needed to clear her thoughts. She didn't know what to do. One one hand, she desperately wanted to see Matthew again, and who knows if she'd get another chance! She still couldn't believe that she got to dance with him, let alone be invited to his house! She'd probably meet more celebrities too- it would be a good chance to network. Then again, she would be dumb to pass up an audition! The casting director really seemed to like her and it felt like an honest way to make a start for herself. The supporting actress on a new TV show! What an opportunity! Yet Wesley Von Berg was the biggest name in showbiz. He creeped her out a little, and it seemed too good to be true, but how could she deny his offer? He wanted to make her a STAR!

    She should definitely go with choice B. Stanley was very kind and honest with her, and Wesley was sort of flirtatious, which isn't very calming. Matthew was a gentleman, but I think she should listen to her heart later and take baby steps with her career. \:\)
