Here we go... "I'll be there in five minutes, Cam." Lila's voice said over the phone. "I'm just waiting for," she paused and grimaced, "Mariana. She's taking her sweet time getting ready."

Cameron laughed. "Okay well, I'll see ya then."

Lila felt her cheeks flush. "Okay, bye."

"Bye." Click. And just like that he was gone. Lila let out a huge sigh. This day would have been perfect. But of course, Mariana had to ruin it.

Sure they were best friends, but Mariana could be a jerk sometimes. Especially when it came to boys.

"I'm ready!" Mariana yelled from the bathroom, jolting Lila out of her thoughts.

Lila rolled her eyes only half-jokingly. "Yes, you look amazing now come on! We're already late."

Mariana gave her a snooty look. "Why do you care? He's just a friend." Her eyes sparkled and a smile played on her lips. "Or is it more than that?"

Lila moaned. "For the love of- look Mariana I told you that I did like him a month ago!"

"Well sometimes people forget." Mariana tossed her hair and stared in the mirror.

"Lets go, Miss Forgetful." Lila said sarcastically.

"Ha ha." Mariana sneered. Then they both smiled and fell into uncontrollable laughter.

"You know I was kidding, right?" Mariana asked with a half concerned look on her face.

Lila giggled. "Of course! Now lets go!"

Then they ran out the door and hopped into the car. Lila jingled the keys excitedly, Mariana laughed and Lila pushed the key in the slot and zoomed down the road.
Mariana's phone rang and she picked it up and pressed the little green button. "Hold on, Lila, I gotta take this." she held the phone up to her ear. "Hey, mom?"

Lila smiled. Mariana loved her mom very much. Even in the middle of dates Mariana would always answer her mom's calls.

Now with her busy, Lila had some time to just think and let her mind wander. She felt bad about thinking all those things about Mariana. Even though Mariana could be all those things she had thought, she was still her best friend

Besides, Mariana wouldn't go for Cameron now that she knew Lila really liked him.

...right?
After a little car ride, Lila pulled into the parking lot of Cannoli's. They were going to go to pizza, but Mariana had whined that she had had too much pizza and wanted a salad or something.

Of course, Cameron just went with it. But whatever, Lila felt better about the whole situation. She couldn't wait to see Cameron. And the place wasn't that bad.

As she was walking towards the restaurant with Mariana, who was still on the phone, she noticed Cara and Will drive by. Strange, since her best friend was dating him.

She shook her head of those thoughts. That was not her business, so she would stay out of it.

She pushed open the door and immediatly saw Cameron. She waved and smiled. He waved back and her heart fluttered.
They slid into their chairs. "Hey, Cam." She smiled.

"Hey, Lila. I'm glad you could make it. And your friend of course." Cameron said in an even tone.

Mariana got off her phone. "Yo, Cameron." she yelled loudly. He laughed and Lila winced.

Everyone in the restaurant stared Mariana irritated, but as usual Mariana didn't notice. "So whatcha been up to? Lila talks about you all the time, but I'd like to hear it from you."

Lila watched Cameron closely. Maybe Mariana didn't get the hint. Maybe she really was going to move in on Cameron.

Cameron paused and gave Mariana an inquisitive look. "Wait, she talks about me?"
Lila blushed. Mariana just kept on rambling. "Well, yeah. But really tell me about yourself, I want to hear it from YOU." She winked and gave him a seductive smile.

It was all over. Lila knew what that smile meant. IT meant Mariana saw what she wanted, and she was gonna get it.

Tears rose up in her eyes. "I'm sorry, I have to go to the bathroom." Lila mumbled and rushed off.

She heard nothing as she walked away. No "wait come back!" or "are you okay?". Just silence. Mariana had already won.
She pushed open a stall and threw up in the porcelain toilet. This was not fair. It never was. Not with Mariana anyways.

She let the tears fall. No one came to check on her. No one wanted to make sure she was alright. Tear stains formed on her pants. She cried until there were no more tears.

Well, she couldn't just stand here and watch him get ripped away from her.
Lila suddenly became angry at herself. This was mostly her fault. She should have told him how she felt and then maybe they wouldn't be in this mess. But no, she wanted to give him time; and now look what's happened.

She stormed out of the bathroom and towards the door. Mariana could find her own ride home, but right Lila needed to get away.

Not bothering to look at their table, she trudged out of the restuarant. Her heart broke in a million pieces when she heard her name faintly as she walked to her car. It was Cameron.

More tears rolled down her cheeks. She began to run. Opening the car door, she jammed the key into the ignition and zoomed off.

She gripped the wheel tight and kept her mind clear.
But suddenly she passed by the park. Stopping the car and getting out, she remembered that moment when she first saw Cameron. He was hanging with some friends when he had to go to the bathroom.

Lila had just bought some fries from the concession stand when she tripped and fell straight into his arms. At that moment he not only caught her, but her heart as well.

Then she was reminded of all the fun times they had had over the summer together. It was so much to let go. Too much.

Then it hit her. Lila wasn't going to just surrender Cameron like everything else. She couldn't. No way.

This time, Lila was going to get what SHE wanted.
Okay then. On to the next one! Coach Kelly smiled. "Wow, Caroline. You're doing better than people who have been doing ballet for double the amount of years you have."

Caroline sighed contendedly. "Thanks, Coach Kelly."

Caroline was supposed to call her Madame Kelly, but Kelly had preffered Coach Kelly. Why? Caroline didn't know.

"Well, I'll see you next tomorrow. Remember to stretch and practice."

"Okay, see ya." Caroline bounced out of the studio and looked for a taxi.
Caroline arrived home just at dinner time. She made some soup and sat down at the dinner table.

As she sat there she thought about this week of school. She had fun with Wendy, ate nasty cafeteria food and did her work. Not anything special.

But then she remembered that boy. At the thought of him, she smiled. Her face reddened and she stopped eating. It was just the first time a boy had ever really paid any attention to her.

It felt weird and kinda nice. Caroline thought of the boy. He was blonde, and muscular, handsome features and he was actually nice to her.
She slapped herself. What was she doing? She couldn't think about guys like that. Her dad would never let her date anyone while she was doing ballet.

He would think of it as a distraction. Caroline sighed. Of course, of all the girls in the world, she had to get the crazy controlling dad.

Again she sighed and finished her soup. Then she put the bowl in the sink and ran up to her room.
Still trying to get that boy out of her mind, she called Wendy.

"Hello?" Wendy said through the phone.

"Hey, its Caroline. You wanna hang out?"

"Yeah! I'm so bored right now! Come over to my house okay?"

Caroline frowned. She might get in trouble for leaving the house without telling her dad; but he wasn't here now.

"Yeah. I'll be there in ten" She slipped on some shoes and hustled down the street.
They only lived a block down from each other so they often visited.

She knocked on the door and a Wendy appeared with a huge grin on her face.

"HEY! Come in! Hurry!"
Wendy pulled her inside and shut the door.
"So you remember that cute boy that you talked to a couple days ago?"

Caroline froze. Um, yes she remembered him. That was pretty much all she had been thinking about for the past week.

"Um, yeah." she said casually.

"Well, he lives right across the street from me!" she squealed.

Caroline laughed. "So?"

Wendy gave her a serious look. "Soooo he was was totally into you! You've never even been on a date before! Why not see if he's truly interested?"

"My dad would never-"

"Ugh!I swear, your dad sucks the fun out of everything!" Wendy whined.
Caroline laughed. "Well, thats what happens when your father is obssessed with your ballet career. Honestly, I wouldn't even have time for a relationship..."

"Aha! So you admit it!" Wendy said.

"Admit what?"

"You admit that you do like him! Or think he's cute or whatever. But still! I knew it!" Wendy laughed

Caroline looked away.

Wendy stopped and felt guilty. "Hey, Caroline, I was just teasing you. If you don't like him, then you don't like him! No big deal."

Caroline smiled. "Thanks." She glaanced at her watch and frowned. "Ugh, Wendy I gotta go.."

"Okay, but come over again soon!"

Caroline giggled. "Definetly." She walked down the stairs and out the door. she glanced across the street and gasped.
There he was. That boy. She wished she knew his name. Maybe she should ask him...no. No way. She didn't know how to talk to boys.

He was standing outside playing with his little sister it looked like. His teeth were bright white as they shone through his smile. Even though he wasn't smiling at her, she blushed.

He looked up and saw her. Suprise registered on his face. Caroline's eyes widened and she looked away. She was hoping he wouldn't recognize her.
He probably wouldn't. She was just another girl he had bumped into. Another face he saw. she wasn't important. She felt a little better and looked up, just to see him coming towards her.

She cursed herself silently and smiled at him.

"Hey, remember me." He smiled. Caroline felt her knees shake. She was not used to feeling like this.

"Yeah." she said quietly.

He gave her a sweet smile, as if he sensed she was nervous. "I wasn't sure if we'd ever bump into each other again."

"Yeah, me either." Caroline started walking away.

"Wait!" He laughed and stood in front of her. "I don't even know your name."

"C-Caroline. Thats my name." Ugh, she felt like such a loser.

"I'm Zach." again he grinned.

She suddenly gave a goofy laugh and then felt embarrassed. She HAD to get out of here.

"Well...bye." Caroline raced down the sidewalk. She heard her name being called by his smooth voice but she didn't stop.
Her dad still wasn't home, thank goodness, so she got ready for bed.

The sky was soon dotted with stars and Caroline sighed. "Whatta day." she said quietly.

She laid her head down on the pillow. "Zach." she whispered as her eyes closed.

A small smile fell across her lips.
