My name is Sarah Weston. As I sit here at my computer trying to put into words the story of my life, I have to wonder why I am doing this. Is it to tell my story to my descendants? Is it to tell my story to you? Or am I doing this to understand my life, for me? I couldn’t say for sure, maybe it is all these reasons. And where do I begin? I will begin with my first memories.

I remember Daddy holding me in his arms. He was crying. He had just read the note from Mommy that said she was leaving to follow her dream of being a movie star. Daddy was heart-broken. I was all he had left to hold onto. He stood in the front yard of our modest home with me. What was he looking for? She was gone. Daddy was a patrol officer back then. He had worked very hard to give Mommy everything she wanted. Nice clothes, a nice home and car, dinner at the Bistro whenever she wanted. But it wasn’t enough for Mommy. She always wanted more. I think when I was born she felt that she would never climb the social ladder. Parenting was not her idea of happiness. I don’t blame myself. Even if I had not been born, she wasn’t the “family” type. But Daddy was. Daddy did everything he could for me. He taught me to walk... and talk. He even potty trained me. He read to me every night as I fell asleep in his arms. He took me with him to the garden where he grew fruit and vegetables so that we could have better meals. He taught himself to cook and he was really good at it. If we needed repairs done, Daddy would go to the library and check out a book on the subject. He did it all. He was so devoted to me that he sacrificed so much! I remember him working out with the TV. I know he would have rather been down at the gym with the other cops using equipment. But he stayed at home with me.
