Meet Christina Logan. Christina was not your typical high school girl. Christina was the eldest child of two. Her parents Ted and Lisal Logan were well known in the community where they lived. Lisal was a former child prodigy. She graduated college at the age of 19 and from there, went on to get her degree in science. Although her passion was for inventions. While attending Yaleton University, she met Ted Logan. He was not a child prodigy but was pursuing his doctorate in medicine. Both were heavy competitors in a Medical biology course and so started their friendship and relationship. Christina was born years into their marriage. They doted on their first child. Both parents hoped she would follow in their footsteps but knew she was her own person. Therefore they nourished all her child adventures and curiosities.
By the age of 12 Christina had learned 5 languages. Two of them she self taught. She could play at least 3 instruments very well and was a competitive swimmer in her Junior High.
Years later, Ted and Lisal decided to have another child. Chazz was 6 years behind his older sister. But he was nothing like her. Where she was a quiet polite little girl, Chazz was loud and rambunctious. He loved to get into things. His curiosity always landed him in trouble because he liked to take things apart to see how it worked. Christina lived with her family on the east side of town. Known for it's high rises and condos for the upper-middle class families. Their parents always gave them what they wanted as long as they brought in the right grades, worked hard, and behaved. But lately, the only thing Christina wanted was to be part of the In Crowd at her high school. She wanted to be one of the "It Girls". They called themselves Divas and they were a group of girls led by Angel Dallas, a Junior. They lived in the mansions across the bridge. They did everything together. They were cheerleaders, student council members, and most importantly, were the most popular girls in the school. Angel's father was said to be a big time businessman. Rumor has it that he was associated with the mob, but no one has ever asked him. Christina never hung with the girls. But she wanted to. So she decided the best thing for her to do was get on the Cheer Squad. She had taken years of gymnastics in elementary school and could tumble better than half the girls on the team. The only thing she had to do was ask her parents. Ted: Absolutely not. I am not having my daughter running around here and lowering her IQ, yelling Go team.
Lisal: Oh Ted. It's not like that. She really wants to be a cheerleader.
Ted: Our daughter is an talented and intelligent young lady. She doesn't need to ruin it by being on some squad. Tell me how they are going to help her get into a good college.
Lisal: They do get scholarships.
Ted: LISAL!
Lisal: Well they do.
Ted: First it's cheerleader, then it will be boys, next pageants, and modeling. This is not the future I wanted for my daughter. I do not agree with this Lisal. I do not agree.
He walked out the kitchen into the room.
Lisal understood her husbands fear of their daughter's future. But she knew it was not their choice to make. She left the table to talk to her husband more. By the end of the week, Lisal was still trying to convince Ted to let Christina try out of the team.
Just as he was dropping the subject for good, Christina decided to give it another try.
Christina: Please, please daddy!
Ted: Honey, I just don't want you prancing around like some immoral teenager yelling for no reason. I think you should use your brain for other things
Christina: Please, daddy.
She began to use her daughter charms on him, by giving him the eyes and the pout that always allowed her to get her way with her father.
She could sense he was beginning to melt
Ted looked down to avoid her look. But seeing the disappointment in her face he soon gave in.
Christina screamed: Thanks dad.
She hugged him.
Christina: I promise, nothing will be affected. I will keep my grades and everything.
Ted: I believe in you baby girl.
The night after try outs the basketball and football teams put together a party at one of the Diva homes.
All those that tried out and the teams came to the party.
While getting something to eat from inside, Christina bumped right into Angel.
Christina: Oh. Hello Christina, I'm Angel. I mean...
Angel: I know who you are.
Christina began to smile.
Angel: Hey you were pretty good at try outs.
Christina: Really, thanks! I just hope I make the team.
Angel: If it were up to me you would already be on it. But you'll find out tomorrow.
Christina began to blush. Just as she was leaving for the pool area, she knocked into someone else.
Christina: I am so sorry. I've been so clumsy these past 10 minutes.
Blu: It's okay. There are alot of people here.
He smiled as she looked back at him and it made her feel more at ease.
Blu: Blu Millers.
Christina: Christina Logan.
Blu: So you must be a new cherry.
Christina: A what?
Blu: A cherry. It's what we call the new cheerleaders.
Christina: I haven't made the team yet, but I hope I will.
Blu: Only the best for Angel's team.
Christina looked around again. She was a little shy and couldn't believe a boy was talking to her. She never had time to think about them before. Just as she was beginning to say something again, a voice came from the distance.
It was Angel.
Angel: Blu! Come over and dance with me like you promised.
Blu: Be right there. It was nice talking to you.
He walked away but looked back at her as he went to dance with Angel.
The try-out results were up my Monday at school.
Stefanie: Can you believe it? You made alternate. There is no way you should have been an alternate. You are way better than most the girls on the squad.
Christina: It is what it is.
Stefanie: Well at least you can practice with the team and you get a uniform.
Christina: Yeah, the green one. But everything happens for a reason. Or that is what my mother told me.
Stefanie: Well at least you won't have to hang with my twin and her vain friends.
Christina: Yeah.....right.
The good part of being an alternate was that Christina was able to travel with the teams. And she would cheer with the Junior Varsity team at the female games.
Just as she was getting used to her placement on the squad she received a phone call.
Angel: Christina. What are you doing this weekend?
Christina: Well I was going to study for the Chemistry exam for Monday.
Angel: Great. I hear nothing. So come to my house, I am going to have a sleepover.
Christina: You want me...
Angel: Well yeah. It won't be a lot of people, just me the Divas. Make sure to bring some extra clothes. I'll text you the rest. Chao!
While at the house she was met by all the Divas. Christina was in Aw as each of them walked into the house. But she tried to keep her cool like she was not impressed. But inside she was screaming. And then, it hit her. Why was she here? As it was getting late. The girls began to leave. Christina was getting confused. She brought a change of clothes and thought it was a sleepover. Just as she was beginning to question, Angel called her over to the Jacuzzi. Angel: So tell me how you are liking the squad. Is everyone treating you well.
Christina: Yeah. I like the team.
Angel: Well I do have something to be honest about. I know you would have been a shoe in for the Varsity squad.
Christina: Really?
Angel: Well if I had my way you would be.
Christina: Well that is very nice of you. I would love to be one the team. Maybe next time though.
Angel: Next time? Why wait, when you can be a part of the team now.
Christina: I don't get it. The decision has been made.
Angel: By the coach. But I think with a little bit of sugar, we can change her mind. She will listen to us when we talk to her. Come with me.
Christina followed Angel to her room. It was twice the size as her own room. In the corner she spotted a shelf filled with trophies and pageant crowns.
Angel: I always get what I want Chrissy. And what I want is for you to be on our team. The Diva team. I talked to them this evening and they all agreed that you would be perfect.
Christina: REALLY!
She couldn't control the excitement in her voice.
Angel: There are only a few things we need to get settled. Only Divas are on the varsity squad. We are always the top of everything.
Christina: Oh.
Angel: And there is a ritual
Christina: A ritual?
Angel: More like an initiation or rite of passage. To prove you really want to be a Diva.
Christina: Okay.
Angel: As Divas. We put our females first at all times. That means the boys come behind everything else. How many boyfriends have you had.
Christina: Well....if you include the time I spent in summer camp......none.
Angel: Well, you will have some practice.
Angel: You must show your loyalty to the Divas by finding a boyfriend.
Christina: Okay.
Angel: Then dumping him
Christina: What?
Angel: And not just any boy. A senior.
Christina: But I don't think I can do that
Angel: It's it or nothing. Why don't you sleep on it and tell me what you think.
But Christina couldn't sleep. She stayed up all night thinking about the initiation. She had never dated before let alone dumping someone. She finally fell asleep on the couch at the foot of Angel's bed. By the next day, Christina was going to tell Angel that being on the team and part of the Divas was not worth the trouble of hurting someone.
Then Angel let her try on her old uniform.
Angel: I thought you would want to see what it was like.
Christina stared at herself in the mirror. It was what she wanted.
She began to think to herself: So she could just make sure that she broke it off with them easily. Maybe write them a note. It wouldn't be so bad. But what about seeing them for the remainder of school. How humiliating.
Angel: So what do you want to do?
Christina: I'll do it!

Daddy was right, Christina.  This isn't a good trade-off just to wear a
uniform.  Though I don't particularly feel sorry for Blu (if that's who
she has in mind) -- probably because the first thing out of his mouth was a bad
    line! :P

Being a teen-ager could be difficult. Her parents did a great job, but the girl seems to be catched by sparking of popularity, even if I got the feeling that deep down she can tell that there is something wrong. I hope Christina will soon figure out wich kind of adult she wants to become, and that she won't regret her choice.
