Audrey May

On March 24, Audrey May, our 12 year old basset hound had to be "put to sleep". She was having multiple problems and her quality of life was not good at all.

I am the kind of person who believes in getting another dog right away and on March 28 my husband and I adopted Droopy from the Rhode Island SPCA. He is a basset hound who was owned by two other families before he came to us. Poor Droopy was nervous and anxious when I brought him home and his tail was tucked permanently between his legs. He was afraid of sudden noises and if anyone touched him unexpectedly on any part of his body he would yelp and run.

After two months he is much better. He loves to run around the house and play and comes when we call him. He has come a long way. :)

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss it is so hard to loose a member of the family I had lost my Bowzer when I was in college I was a way my second year and left him at home with my parents he was 13yrs old and had little back problems and was going blind. I was gone for a few months and came home on Christmas break and he was so greatful to see me (I was never gone from home that long before)but I had to make a choice to let him go on or put him to sleep When I was gone he was not eating right or would not play and was starting to forget his manners biting and not remembering to go out when needed to and he was loosing more and more of his eyesight. I cried and loved him and took roll of pictures and then took him to the vet. Thank God for my future husband. He came through with another basset a year later.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, I had to have my 6 year old springer spaniel Sam put to sleep in March this year, he fell from the roof of our house and broke his back, it's really hard when they go as they become a big part of your family. I believe in getting another dog straight away, unfortunatly where we live there are no vets (we had to drive 9 hours to get poor Sam to a vet) so we decided to wait until we move back to the UK before we get another dog. Your new man Droopy will make your loss so much easier, I hope he gets over his fears soon, I'm sure he'll be the most loving dog in the world once he learns to trust you. \:\)
