-Los Alamos, New Mexico 1945-

In a deserted community, marked as a nuclear test bed, an explosion erupts. Houses fly into a rage and smoke fills the streets. All that's left of the town is an eerily disturbing mushroom cloud, slowly fading.
In amongst the fiery debris a solid mass of white crystalline reaches the surface. The crystal starts to shake from within, slowly then violently. A winged figure bursts out of the crystal with pieces flying everywhere. The creature dusts itself and speeds off through the sky. - Calcutta, India 1995 -
In a cozy nook of her mansion, Lara sits down to read her father's old journal, when she gets interrupted by the unmistakable sound of footsteps approaching her. It's Larson, a long-time rival.
"Now what's a man to do to get that sort of attention from ya?" he said while tossing a magazine onto the coffee table with the headline 'Croft bags Bigfoot?' Lara's eyes peered up from her book, slightly annoyed. "If that's the sort of attention you want Larson, you're well on your way" she replied with her elegant English accent.
He smirked "Sounds like fun, but I'm only here to make an introduction."
He placed a small screen on the coffee table and turned it on, to reveal a lean blonde woman.
"Lara Croft, meet Jacqueline Natla of Natla Technologies" "Good afternoon Miss Croft, my research department has recently turned its focus to the study of ancient artifacts and I'm lead to believe, that with the right incentive, you're just the woman to find them for me." "I'm afraid you've been mislead" Lara said resting her head against her hand. "I only play for sport"
"That's exactly why I've come to you Miss Croft, this is a game you've played before, with you're father." Jacqueline said as she picked up a remote to change the screen. "You both spent years searching for the Scion of Atlantis; all you needed was the location of Qualopec's Tomb"
"You found Vilcabamba?" Lara asked leaning forward from her chair. "How quickly can you get to Peru?" "Vilcabamba continues to elude us and my insistence that we press on in spite of these failures has morale low. I suspect Jenkins to be the author of the sedition; but he simply refuses to accept the possibility that Atlantis is the foundation upon which all known civilizations were built. Increasingly I find that it is Lara that remains untainted by academic dogma and open minded enough to see this truth."
Lara reads from an entry in her father's journal. She gently closes the book and puts it in her backpack, taking a deep breath and looking out at the frosted scenery of the mountains.
She watches as her guide climbs up a rotting ladder to an entrance in the mountain side. Just as he gets to the top, the ladder crumbles and falls.
"I'm sorry! I didn't bring enough rope" he yells down to her.
"Not to worry! I'll find another way up!"
Lara starts to look around trying to figure out how she could make it to the top platform where her guide now resides. She noticed the rock formation on the side and started to climb them, leading her to a ledge. Lara made a running jump and lept to the other side where a conveniently placed fleet of stairs resided. She ran up the stairs to meet with her guide. When she got there she noticed a huge door to the mountain caves.
"There's got to be a way to open this door" she said more to herself than the guide. She noticed the symbols on top of the door and decided to try to make it up there to get a better look.
After surveying a protrusion in the cliff for a while, she made her decision that that was the way she was going to get up. Lara took a few steps back and made a running jump for the ledge and hauled herself up with as much grace as possible.

Getting out her grapple hook she managed to wrapt it around a protruding beam and swing to the other side of the huge door. Lara looked around for a second trying to figure out her next move and then found a ledge directly on top of the doors, that she thought she could make with some ease. She jumped and grabbed a hold of the edge and pulled herself up to find a cog that she pushed back into its hole and the heavy doors underneath her opened.
