Garden? That's a name I haven't heard in a long time... a long time...

Garden? That's a name I haven't heard in a long time... a long time... Eggplant and Ella were enjoying their quiet brunch together. It had only been a month after Dill had passed away but the Gardens had started to get used to the life without Dill. It had not been too difficult, considering Egg and Ella were preparing to welcome their child to the house, but Ella found herself feeling blue again, and for no obvious reason. - Don't look so sad, love, everything is going to be fine... We are going to have the most beautiful baby ever, and you are going to be such an amazing mother, you know that!
- It's not that, Egg, it's just, well, as if I forgot how to smile...
- Well, you won't be able to help smiling when you are holding our baby, just couple weeks to go honeybunny, keep your chin up, love
Keeping her chin up was harder than Ella dared to tell Eggplant. He would not understand, he would just say that Ella should be on cloud nine, they were becoming parents and so on. How could she possibly explain to Eggplant that she could not be happy even though she knew she should. Maybe that was the whole problem? Perhaps if Ella concentrated on something else than desperately trying to be happy, she would eventually be happy again?

It was worth a try at least, all she needed to do, was to find a new hobby. Maybe sculpting would make her happy again.
Meanwhile, Eggplant was living his dream. He had his beautiful pregnant wife waiting at home with the dinner served in the table every evening when he came home, and his audience adored him, even though he was mainly interested in composing music, not playing it on stage.

Yes, life was good, Eggplant thought, not realizing that he should probably be spending a little more time at home.
Couple weeks later Ella felt the labour pains hit her when she was all by herself at home. After a quick, frantic call to Egg, she jumped on Dommithilde's old Kenspa and rushed to the hospital. The doctors thought it was a miracle she had even managed to get to the hospital alive without crashing into a car or a pedestrian, as Ella had been speeding way over the legal limit. But then, they said, pregnant women were known to do crazy stuff. Eggplant hurried to the hospital as soon as he could. He did not want to miss the birth of his first child, and he wanted to be there for Ella, who, Eggplant said to himself, could certainly use some support. The past months had been rough on her, Eggplant was not blind, but what could he do? He had tried everything he could possibly think of.

Things would change with the baby in the house, Eggplant was sure they would, and hopefully for the better.
Normally the mothers of newly born babies exited the hospital beaming with happiness, but Ella was looking like she had just lost a family member instead of giving birth to one. Ella did not know why she was not happy, surely she loved her little Foliage Beet who was the cutest little girl she had ever seen.

Ella had it all, an adoring husband, a beautiful daughter, a gorgeous house to work on, and enough money to redecorate the entire home if she got in the mood. Only one problem: she did not know how to enjoy it.
Unaware of her mother's distress, Foliage Beet was enjoying her life as any baby would: sleeping, eating and getting more than enough attention from her parents. She did not know that she was an heiress to a large family fortune, nor did she care. A baby's life is simple. Elderberry held her little niece and her heart was aching. Her little boys would be toddlers by now, probably learning to talk. What would Evan tell them? What was he thinking, or had he forgotten about her already? Perhaps he had found someone new, someone prettier and younger, someone who would not abandon her children...

Elderberry bit her lip. She had made her choice, there was no going back anymore. Or was there?
Eggplant was probably the only sim in the house who was genuinely excited about the birth of Foliage Beet. He doted his daughter in every way he could, after all she was his little princess, and the new Garden heiress, as Elderberry was not married, as far Eggplant knew. Who would have thought that as a younger child he would be the one produce the next generation of Gardens?

Yes, Eggplant was happy and proud of himself, and his family.
Dill and Dommithilde had heard the news as well, there was a new Garden born and needless to say that all the deceased Gardens on The Other Side were relieved. There was now another generation to carry on the tradition and the family name. - Eggplant, do you seriously have to torture my ears when I'm exercising???
- Torture? How?
- Yeah, I can't even call that noise music
- HEY! You probably shouldn't say that in front of my fans, they might mug you...
- Your fans are probably deaf anyways..
- I doubt they are, and my compositions have received plenty of good reviews
- A million flies can't be wrong...
- Hahah, very funny sis
Eggplant had no clue why both his sister and wife were being so strange. Elderberry was even crankier than normally, for all that Egg had thought it was not possible, and Ella was so aloof, she had not smiled in ages. Or at least ever since she found out she was expecting Foliage Beet.

Women, who could understand them? Eggplant could only hope that in Creator's name Foliage Beet would be a little less complicated...
As usual, Eggplant was more than little blind, and he had spotted Ella's sad face only when she had started to cope with her strange unhappy feelings. Slowly but surely Ella started to see the good things in life, and she found inner peace in gardening. As the garden regained its strength after months of neglect, Ella found joy and happiness in her domestic life.

The dark clouds had started to fade.
