Previously, Adam Johansson -- a ‘contented’ pro-athlete -- is being stalked by a woman with strange marks on her face.
She unnerved Adam by claiming to know his history and background.
Just who is she?
And what does this lady want?

Without further ado, here is the 2nd installment, Life’s Like That… Decisions.
Hope you enjoy ;-)
Adam Johansson, pro-athlete and having admiration of many, has never felt the town being this cold before.
At least not for the past 10 years.

When he first arrived in town without a job…

It felt rather empty.
There were some mix ups with his neighbors…
Being ignored at parties…
Things got better when he got his first job as a toddler coach and made is first friend, Frank Finn.
They have been buddies since then.
Looking at himself now, he managed to snag a spot in the Green Llamas and have scores of fans to deal with.
With his improved physique and fame, his phone became so flooded with text and dating requests that he needed a spare phone for personal calls.

Frank thought it was hilarious, Adam thought it was outrageous…

He smiled in memory of this, thinking how things could change so drastically with time.
With a sharp turn, he can see the junkyard in a distance.
Checking the road, he also noticed that it was so far out of town that people were hardly seen on the streets.

For some reason, Adam thought it was also strange that the trees within the junkyard tend to be skeletons of the vegetation just outside.
“They look like claws grasping at the sky, devoid of hope…,” Adam thought grimly.

He parked his car nearby and entered the junkyard.
He waited…. And waited… and waited…

Just where is she? It has been 4 hours and evening is encroaching upon the junkyard.

Adam's thoughts were drifting to Mei again until he heard a familiar voice.

“I see that you are very concerned with this meeting.”
Adam looked up at her and bore a mask of rage, maybe some fear…

“Look lady, I came as you asked. I’m at this forsaken heap of trash and was here on time.
A much needed break is messed up because of you.
You are really late and I am really pissed. Now, you better spit out what you know or I’ll call the cops.”

She smiled knowingly, “You have my apologies, Adam. You are right, I was very rude.
Please ask me a question and I will answer it to the best of my knowledge.”

The lady started for the junk heaps.
He stared after her. Ask her a question? What sort of joke is this?
He has tons of questions she SHOULD answer and she is only answering one of them?

“The question can be anything, from life to death, about dreams and reality, or even…” she looked at Adam closely this time.
“Or even about the past to present.”

Adam was jerked out of his anger by the last statement, again the lady is hinting that she knows something.
The most important thing right now is to figure how much she knows, she could use whatever she knows about his past to jeopardize his life and career.

Nonetheless, when he opened his mouth and instead of asking his intention, he asked “Just who are you?”
Her eyes showed a brief glint of approval, “You are very wise. Given your history, I would not expect anything less Adam.”

Closing her eyes, “I am Aisa. I knew you were arriving in this town and had seen you assimilate with the town’s folk in the past years.
I am just an old lady who observes things and earns a little money from fortune telling.”

Adam looks at her disbelievingly, “Are you telling me that you have been stalking me for 10 years?!”

Aisa cackled with laughter. “Only one question, and I answered.
But I will answer the last one since I was rude twice, I have known of your… existence… even before your arrival.”
Adam turned away, “So you know what I am?”

“I cannot answer that. But know this, I came with a warning.”

Adam turned his head sideways, “So spill the beans already.”

“You stand at the crossroads of your life, you have choices and there will always be consequences…”

“DUH!!! I know that! Everyone knows about repercussions of their actions!!!”, if she is just going to lecture about karma, Adam would leave.

Aisa continued calmly, “When your choices actually concern the fates of many? When your choices do not only involve you, but lives of others as well?”

Adam stood his ground, but he was stunned. Luckily his back was facing her, covering his shocked expression.

“Be wary of your choices and actions, Adam. You have been warned…”

Without turning around, Adam knew she was gone already.
Not knowing what to think, Adam walked slowly out of the empty junkyard.
Honestly, this just sounds like a really bad practical joke. Cliché even.

Seeing Frank in a distance, Adam hollered a greeting.

“Hey Adam, what ever possessed you to be at the junkyard?”

“I… I had to get some scraps for my dishwasher, its kinda busted.”

Frank was totally not convinced but played along,
“Ok… How bout’ a lift home? Its getting late.”
(Going 10 miles out of town for scraps when he could’ve just call for an electrician? What was Adam thinking?)

Adam being confused as he is right now, just accepted the offer. They travelled in silence.
When Adam was dropped off, he watched Frank’s car drive away till it disappeared behind a house after a right turn.
He thought it would be ridiculous if taking Frank’s offer to go back home would trigger some sort of cataclysm in town.

He felt that the meeting with Aisa was not only a waste of time, but gave him even more questions to ponder about.
He remembered Aisa saying during the first encounter, “We know who you really are…”
Who is “we”?
A warning. Why him? Why would his actions affect anyone at all?

Should he even listen to her?
While dragging his feet up the stairs, he suddenly felt very alone and tired.
Adam picked up his phone and dialed.
“Hey Mei, its Adam. Wanna hang out at my place?”

A brief pause while Mei contemplates. Adam held his breath.

“You’re coming?! Great! I’ll see you in a few then!”
Within moments, Mei arrived and Adam changed out of his jersey.

“Boy, are you a sight for sore eyes…” Adam breathed.

“I was thinking of you too… But for you to get me out so late, I figured that it was urgent…”

“Did anyone say that you are a psychic?”

“Women intuition, Adam” Mei smiled.
Mei moved closer.
“And it looks to me that I’m right. Adam, what is wrong?”

Adam hesitated, he wanted to share his encounters of meeting Aisa. He wanted someone to share his burden.
He also kept his mouth shut.

“Aw Adam, now you are being stubborn!” Mei grinned while fixing her hair. “You wanted to share something with me?”

Being this close, Adam could smell the lavender soap Mei was using and a brief aroma of her shampoo…
And it is driving him crazy.
Adam took a breath to steady himself and finally said,
“I’m sorry Mei, I don’t know what came over me.
I guess I just wanted to see you. It has been awhile since our last meeting.
Thanks for coming on such a short notice.
It is late and I don’t want to get you in trouble with your mother.”
Adam wanted to offer her a lift back, but remembered leaving his car at the junkyard since Frank brought him back home. Mental face-palmed himself.

“I miss you too, Adam. Let us meet up this coming weekend, mom will be away for awhile and we will have all the time to ourselves.”

“I would like that.” Adam smiled.

With a brief kiss, Mei waved goodbye and left.
Adam sat down, dimmed the lights and switched on the stereo.

Latin music usually helps to sooth his nerves, but this time, he couldn’t even hear it.
His mind was miles away, reflecting on the day’s events.
Meantime, two women were engaged in a conversation somewhere else.

“So Nona, what has the Old One told you?” a woman beckoning the other to whisper the answer.
“This Old One is smarter than he looks, maybe he is the one to change the fates.” Nona whispered.

“He has decided to start on the path and we should watch him closely.
However, it is still too early for us to judge him, he has yet to meet Decima.”

Decima is calculative, and a shrewd one…
Hope she doesn’t break him, I like this Old One.”
The other woman laughed. “YOU?! The great Nona falling for some man?!”

Nona stood in defiance and said coldly, “I don’t tell you how to lead your life, you stay out of mine.”

Looking at Nona, the woman said sternly,
“Don’t be foolish. We can never be apart, you know that.
We are one, one of many.
We are aspects of each other, unending till the end of time.”

Nona kept quiet, reluctantly agreeing to her peer and noted to herself to keep her thoughts reserved whenever they come together.
She knows the others will never understand, they have already accepted their roles.
Maybe she is the youngest and maybe she is naďve...

But she has hope.
Nona stared at the sea, listening to sounds of the night.
Palm trees rustling softly as they sway gently with the sea breeze...
The crashing of waves on shore or against jagged rocks…
The calls of cicadas…

Thinking to herself, she thought,
“Life’s like that… we need to make decisions in life all the time.
Trying to make the best possible decision for our love ones, for our friends, for our future…
But does that make it the right choice?”
This is it for the 2nd installment.
I’m still struggling with the direction of the story, if some parts seem strange to you, I’m deeply sorry! >.<

If you made it this far, thank you for patronizing my story chapters.
I am also very much appreciative of the comments from the previous chapter. *bows head*

Stay chill ;-)

I had to reserve judgment on this one until I saw some more story.  Now that I've seen more, let me thank you for not writing these two tropes: 1) cute guy is liked by cute girl but really likes this other cute girl, or 2) supernatural being drags naive human into danger for lurrrve.  Hurrah!  Liking Adam, liking Frank, very interested to see where this one goes.
