Hi everyone!!

Welcome to my new story! I'm really excited about it!

I hope you all enjoy the story.

Let's get started!
Isabella looked at her reflection in the mirror. The cut above her eye felt worse than it looked, she was thankful for that. Hoyt had gotten mad again. Then again, he was always mad. Today, it was because instead of the steak she had promised, the family had to settle for spaghetti for dinner. He had lost his temper and threw a glass at her head.
She put the twins to bed then cleaned up the shards of glass and put the food away. Hoyt had stormed out soon after the assault, not giving any thought to his overreaction or to how his wife’s’ injury was faring.
Isabella kept staring at herself. How did her life end up this way? She had been married for 5 years; an arrangement between hers and Hoyts families that was made when they were only children. She had no plans to be married at the age of 20. She wanted to become a clothing designer, all her years of drawing and reading fashion magazines and applying for design school had been for naught. Her parents had forbid her, telling her it was her responsibility to marry this man she hardly knew for the good of the family. When she had first met Hoyt, he had been a gentleman. He was a cold man who never really cared about what Isabella had to say, but he was as kind as he could allow himself to be during their courtship.
She never put up a fuss, but then again, she thought this was as bad as it was going to get...
Once the pair reluctantly said “I Do”, everything had changed. He was always shouting at her, it was either something she wasn’t doing that annoyed him or something she was doing, something she had cooked a certain way, the way she wore her hair, anything and everything set Hoyt off. Two years into their marriage, she had become pregnant, and the abuse stopped. He had become the cold gentlemen she had first met; he barely acknowledged her presence. The twins arrived, and soon after their first birthday the old Hoyt had returned. He started being mean to her and the children, calling her names and criticizing her. He never paid any attention to his twins, he could barely remember their names. Hoyt spent more nights away from home than he did with his actual family. The whole town knew he had a mistress; he did nothing to hide the fact. Isabella only left the house to get groceries; she wanted to avoid the stares and whispers as much as she possibly could. She was embarrassed. She had no one to turn to. Her parents were no help whatsoever. When she left Hoyt after the first time he hit her, her mother looked at her with sympathy, but told her that she and her grandchildren could not stay with them in their home. “Just do what he says, dear. That’s all you have to do. Stay out of his way and do what he says. What’s so hard about that? This marriage is very important to our family, Isabella. Don’t mess it up because you don’t know how to do your job.” She was crushed. Isabella finally made it to her cold, lonely bed. She couldn’t sleep, her head was throbbing, and the pain was keeping her awake. She tried to think back to the last time she was happy. Truly happy. She felt like her life had ceased the moment her parents sat her down and told her about the arrangement between them and the Greenmounts. She had been 18, and had just graduated high school. Her parents had called her into her fathers’ office one hot summer night. She hated going in there. The room made her nervous. She sat down on the plush velvet couch across from her parents and looked at them nervously. They didn’t speak for several minutes. After an awkward silence, her father cleared his throat. “Isabella, you’re 18 now, and finished with your schooling. Your mother and I decided long ago that this would be the time we would tell you about our family’s arrangement.”
Her fathers’ formality made her uncomfortable. She fidgeted slightly in her seat.
“When you were 10 years old, I met with Winston Greenmount. We came together with the idea to join our empires, and to ensure the companies prosper after we both pass on, we knew the companies needed to be run by family. So we made a marriage pact to ensure such. You will be marrying his son Hoyt soon after your twentith birthday.” Isabella’s heart stopped. She stared at her parents as if they had grown two heads. “What?! I have to do WHAT?! No way! I’m not marrying anybody! I have plans, dad! I want to apply to design school! I want to become a designer and open my own shop!” Arthur looked at his daughter. He waited for her to finish her plead and began calmly, “I don’t believe you were ever asked about any plans made for yourself. I am your father, so whatever plans I make for you are the plans you will follow. Get rid of these ideas, and get used to the life your mother and I have made for you. I will ignore your outburst and be gracious enough to not punish you for it. You will be sent away and use these two years to learn how to become the perfect wife. You will receive lessons in cooking, cleaning, sewing, and how to take care of a home. After your birthday you will meet Hoyt, and soon after that you will be married.” Isabella opened her mouth to protest, but her father stopped her with his raised voice, “I don’t want to hear it Isabella! You have responsibilities in this family and this is one of them. You will do as I say and I will not hear anything otherwise. Am I understood?” Isabella looked at her mother, hoping for a savior, and she was denied. Her mother gave her a sad smile and simply looked away. Without a word, Isabella stood up and walked out her fathers’ office. She was devastated.

When she knew her parents were asleep, she snuck off to the lake. She didn’t care if she got caught; there was nothing left for her to lose. But she had to see him. She had to tell him what was happening to her. She cried the whole way. She felt like she was suffocating.
She walked up to the moonlit lake and saw him standing there. Her heart began to hurt. How could she do this to him? He loved her, and she loved him, this will kill them both. Her tears were still falling when she approached him. He smiled and reached to hug her when he noticed she was crying, “Bells? What’s wrong? Why are you crying?” he pulled her into an embrace. She sobbed into his shoulder. She couldn’t bring herself to tell him the truth, she loved him.
“I’m going away.” She said flatly. He looked at her with a worried expression, what did she mean?
“Going away where?” he asked her. She forced a look of annoyance across her tear stained face.
“What does it matter where?! I’m leaving, and you can’t go! I’ll be gone for two years, and I won’t be able to see you.” She spat at him. Her heart tightened in her chest.
His face fell. What was she saying? “What’s going on Bells? Why are you being so mean? If you’re going away, we can work it out…I love you…”
“Well, that’s just a shame now isn’t it? I just wanted to let you know, since I’m set to leave next week. Have a nice summer and have a nice life.” He said to him. She turned on her heel and walked away. She tried, but she couldn’t get the tears to stop falling. She had left him there on the lake with a broken heart.
Isabella kept her eyes closed. That had been the beginning of the end for her. She had loved him so much. She had never felt love like that since. She fell into a fitful sleep, unsure if she really wanted to wake up ever again.

I really hope you like it! It's not this heavy the whole time, I promise!
See you in chapter 2!
