Here's the third chapter!

Here's the third chapter! I scrubbed my hair while I stood under the head of the shower. The steam filled my ears and nose, and I closed my eyes.

There's nothing better than a nice, long shower in the morning.

I turned the water off after reveling in the warmth, grabbed my towel ad walked into my room.
The first thing I noticed were the stuffed animals of Lilian's when she was a kid. I kept them in my room to remember how easy life was for her back then.

I grabbed an outfit out of my dresser and put it on. Just as I was about to walk downstairs, my cell phone started to ring.

"Hello?" I answered.
"Sergeant Keller? I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but it's time."

"I'm being deployed? I just got back four months ago."

"I know, but we're losing a lot of men. We need someone like you and your team."
I tried not to show my disappointment. I'm obviously not disappointed that I have to go, I'm honored, like always. It's just Liliana. I've been gone almost her entire teen life, and right when I get home, I have to leave her again.

"How long?" I asked.

"We don't know. At least a year."
Great, so it looks like I won't even get to see her go off to college!

"Alright. Thanks."

"You leave tomorrow. Again, I know you wanted to spend this year with Liliana. I'm really sorry. But your nation needs you."

"I understand."
I pressed the end button on my cell phone and stuffed it into my jean pocket. How am I supposed to tell Liliana? She'll be so disappointed. She was looking forward to this year, to spending it together. Like regular mother and daughter.

She definitely won't understand-she never has.

I took a deep breath and made my way downstairs to her room.
I'm going to have to tell her sooner or later, anyway. I knocked on her door.

"Come in!" She yelled.

I walked in as she was rummaging through her dresser for something to wear.

"Hey, how would you like to go to that restaurant you like so much?"

"M&M's?" I nodded. "It's not really a restaurant."

"Do you eat food there?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Yes," she smiled.

"Then it's a restaurant."

"It's a diner, Mom," She laughed.

"Same thing!"
"So?"

"Yeah, let me just find something to wear, she smiled.

"Alright, I'll be waiting in the car."

She smiled and giggled and my heart sank. This is going to be the hardest thing I'll ever have to do.
We arrived at M&M's and was seated on arribal.

"I can't believe I've never seen the inside of this place," I said.

"You haven't been here long enough to have been here, before. But that's all gonna change, and we can come here every day if you want," Liliana beamed.

I gulped.

I took a long sip from my glass, as did Liliana, as the waiter took our order.

"Um, I'll have whatever Johnathon feels like making," Liliana said, handing her menu to the waiter.
"And you?" She asked.

"Um, I'm not really hungry," I replied.

"Then why did you want to come here?" Liliana asked me.

"I just wanted to talk to you in your favorite place in the entire world, as you call it."
"Aw, how nice of you," she gently smiled. I smiled back.

Oh how I'll miss that beautiful smile of hers...

"So, how's school?" I asked.

She finished drinking her water, and replied, "It's great. I'm waiting on my acceptance letter from Summer Valley University. That is, if I get in."

"You will. You have good grades, right?"

"All A's. And I'm on the chess team. Although, I was kind of suckered into joining by Finn."

"Ah, Finn. Isn't that the kid you used to run around in your underwear in and playing Cops and Robbers as a kid?"
Liliana looked around her. "Mom!"

I laughed. "Sorry! I didn't mean to embarrass you. But isn't it?"

"Yes. We're still friends. And no, we don't run around in our," she leaned in, so no one would hear her, "underwear together anymore."

"Well, that's good to know!" I joked. Liliana's cheeks turned red.

"I have a feeling you like Finn more than a friend."

Lilana spit some of her water on the table. "Wh-what makes you think that?"

"Uh, that did," I replied, grabbing a napkin. "Does he know?"

"No. We're friends. I wouldn't want to ruin that."
"You know, friendships don't always get ruined when you start a relationship."

"You're just saying that because you're an optimistic person. Which I envy, by the way."

Back in the day, it was true. When I was in high school, girls told their best friends they were in love with them, and they ended up getting married two years later, popping out a few babies, and growing old together. The same could happen for Liliana. I know it can.
"So, Liliana, I didn't want to just talk to you about school. Though I love hearing you talk about it."

"Then, what did you wanna talk about?" She asked. I took a deep breath.
The waiter brought Liliana her food, and I waited until she was gone.

"Mom? What did you want to talk about?" She asked, impatiently, while taking a bite of her food.

"I'm deploying."

Liliana dropped her fork on her plate. "When?" she asked, without looking up at me.

"Tomorrow morning."
She held back her tears by squeezing her eyes shut. "I knew it. You love the military more than you love me."

She got up out of the booth and started to run out of the Diner.

"Now, Liliana that's not true!" I yelled.

She just ignored me and kept running, the door slamming behind her. Everyone looked at me, but I payed no attention.

That's not true...
