Another day in Bridgeport.
The sun's up, shining brightly; signaling the people that today's gonna be a hot day.
The Martins’ household, however, was not as hot as the weather. Rather, the temperature was cool… or was it?
I hope the bills are here already.” Aerith thought as she opened the mailbox.

“Good morning, my lady.”
“Daniel! You surprised me!” Aerith shrieked.

“It’s been a while.” He showcased his irresistible smile again.

“Now that you mentioned it, you weren’t visiting for the past several days.”

“Did you miss me?” he teased.

“What would you like me to answer?”

“Yes of course. Say it cutely and I’ll melt.”

“Mr. Calgon!” Aerith reprimanded. Daniel chuckled. Aerith also giggled afterwards.
“Goofing off early in the morning?” Alexander suddenly arrived.

“Master!” Aerith was shocked, “I’m sorry.”

“I’m off to work. I don’t want to catch you goofing off again, do you understand?” he strongly said. Aerith nodded. Daniel remained silent. Alexander, as he slowly walked towards his car, glared at Daniel. Daniel on the other hand wasn’t moved, not an inch.
“So that’s your master?” Daniel asked.

Aerith nodded, “Yes, that’s him alright.”

“Well, that’s one tough man to handle. Now I know why you ran away before. Even merely seeing him gives you the Goosebumps.”

“If he heard you, I can’t imagine what he will do to you.” Aerith chuckled, “Anyway, I’ll be off now. See you soon.”

“How about tomorrow? Tomorrow’s a Sunday right? You’re free right?”

“I’m not sure, Daniel. The master is already home and I bet there’ll be lots of work to do that I better not take a day off, but I’ll try, so catch ya soon!” she ran away.
“I just saw Daniel outside. So… are you going out again this Sunday?” Lora teased.

“He asked me but I didn’t give him an answer. Now that the master is here, I’m not certain if Sunday can still be availed.”

“You mean more work?”

“It’ll be more work indeed.” Aerith placed down the bills on the table.
“I’ll shoulder your work, if the master will allow me to.” Lora suggested.

“That’ll be too much work, Lora. It’ll be exhausting.”

“I’m used to a lot of work.” Lora proudly said.

“You really like me to end up with Daniel, don’t you?”

“Yes, I definitely do. You two are perfect for each other!”

Aerith just smiled.
Aerith just finished eating her lunch when Mr. Adams approached her.

“Annie, I have some errands for you to do.” Mr. Adams instructed.

“Errands downtown?”

“Yes, downtown. This’ll be a little bit more than last time.”

“I can handle them, Mr. Adams.” She giggled innocently.

“And after these, I have some grocery items for you to purchase. And please do drop by the market to check if fresh meat is available.”

“Roger that!”

“Good.” Mr. Adams smiled, “Now, be off.”
While walking down the streets downtown, Aerith suddenly felt uneasy, like some eyes were watching her from afar. She remembered what her cousin, Beatrice, told her. She felt extremely nervous that she ran. “Ouch!” she bumped herself to a man along the way.

“The next time you run frantically,” he extended his hand and pulled her up, “watch where you’re going.”

“Master!” she was surprised.
She landed on his chest.
He can feel her breath and she can also feel his.
They were very close.
Their eyes met and their faces turned red. Then, they released each other. And for a while, they weren’t able to look at each other.
“I’ll be off now, sir. I still have some errands to finish.” She ran away.

“Watch where you’re going, Annie! There’s a tree in front of…”
Before he can finish what he said, she knocked herself on the tree and fainted.

“Annie! Annie! Wake up!” he held her.
“Good afternoon, you’ve reached the Martins’ residence. May I know who’s speaking?” Mr. Adams answered the phone.

“Mr. Adams, it’s me. Annie is with me now. She met an accident due to her clumsiness.” Alexander spoke.

“What happened?”

“She ran fast without looking and bumped herself on a tree.”
“That’s peculiar of Annie. Tell me, what happened before that? There must be a triggering cause of that.”

Alexander flushed and wasn’t able to answer.

“Well, I won’t ask for an explanation. As a grown, mature and responsible man, master, you are obliged to bring her home well. I’ll finish the errands I told her to do.”

“Okay.” He hung up. Mr. Adams placed the phone down. “I wonder what he did.” He smiled.
“Lora, I’ll be out to do something. I asked Annie a lot of errands downtown so it’ll be long before she comes home. Take care of the house.”

“Yes sir.” Lora answered.

Mr. Adams left.
“Where am I?” Aerith finally woke up. “Ouch!” she held her head.

“You’re in my office.” Alexander walked towards her. He placed the mug filled with hot chocolate on the table. “You’re quite blessed that you’re only bruised and not wounded after your stupid accident.”

Aerith remembered what happened and flushed in embarrassment.
“Drink that.” Alexander ordered as he pointed at the mug.

“Thank you.” Aerith drank it, “this tastes really good.”

“Yeah, I added poison.” He bluntly said.

“What?”

“I hope that helps you lose all of your clumsiness.”
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for being clumsy. I even bothered you, master.” she looked very guilty. She stood up. “I’m all fine now. I must go back to doing my errands.” She felt dizzy; fell down sitting on the floor. “You rest here.” He helped her stand up. She sat down the sofa.

“I’m fine really! That was just an aftershock but I’m good.” She insisted.

“Stop lying!” he raised his voice.

Aerith’s eyes, in surprise, widened.
“I’m sorry.” He apologized.

“It’s okay.”

“Please rest. You need it. Don’t worry, I won’t leave you here.”

She flushed, “You don’t need to do this.”

He hushed her.
“Rest.” He ordered.
“Hey there! Lora, right? Is Annie inside?” Daniel called.

“Oh! Daniel!” Lora opened the gate, “Annie is out at the moment. Errands.”

“I see.” Daniel’s enthusiastic mood went down, “Will she be here ASAP?”

“I don’t know. She had tons of errands. I think she’ll come home late.”
“She’s in downtown?” he asked. Lora nodded in reply. “Well, I’ll be going there. I might find her.” He ran away.

“Bye!” Lora waved goodbye. “Oh! What a romantic guy! If I was Annie, I’ll rip my throat squealing.”
Aerith woke up. She stared at the window. The sun was almost setting. She was surprised to see Alexander napping on the couch in front of her. She smiled upon seeing him so peaceful. Her heart skipped a bit. She flushed for she knew what that meant. Alexander woke up, “Oh, you’re awake.” He rubbed his eyes like a little boy just waking up from his afternoon nap. Aerith found that cute of him to do. She smiled. “Why are you smiling?” he asked.

“Nothing!” she answered.

“Don’t tell me the bump made you insane.” He raised his eyebrow, “Oh right! You’re already insane.”

“ALEXANDER!!!” she was pissed off.

He smiled upon hearing her call him by his name. She, upon seeing his reaction, smiled also. It seemed like Alexander’s smile was contagious to Aerith.
“Annie, tomorrow, I’ll be visiting someone special. I’d like you to come with me.”

“Why me?” she asked.

“I need someone to carry my things for me.” He reasoned out.

“Is that it?”

“Do you want me to be honest?”

“Who wouldn’t want that?” Aerith insisted, “Tell me.”
. “I’m comfortable with you.” he said.
Aerith’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing such.

“Does it have something to do with business?”

“Maybe.” He answered, “So, you’ll come?” he asked

“What are my choices?”

“Yes or yes.”

“As expected.” Aerith chuckled, “Yes, master.”

He smiled, “Let’s go home.”
Annie was the first one to go outside the building since Alexander had to stop by an employee who talked to him. To her surprise, outside the building, a familiar figure stopped by. “Annie!” Daniel said. He was about to run towards her but he stopped because Alexander came. He went beside Aerith.

“Oh! Hello, Daniel!” she greeted politely. Alexander stared at Aerith, then at Daniel. Towards Daniel, however, his regular stare became a glare. He held her shoulder and pulled her closer to him, his eyes still fixed on the challenged Daniel.

“Let’s go.” He dragged Aerith.

“Wait!” she stopped him, “For a while? He’s my friend, Daniel Calgon.” she pleaded with a smile. He released her. “5 minutes.”
“Daniel, hey!”

“Hey! Tomorrow?”

“I’m sorry. I can’t. I have something up tomorrow.”

“Regarding work?”

Aerith nodded.

“Oh, okay…” he looked down.
“I’m sorry, Daniel. How about next week, Sunday?”

“I can’t wait anymore!” Daniel spoke like a stubborn kid.

“Times up! Come, Annie!” Alexander ordered.

“Wait!” she shouted, “uhmm… Bye Daniel!” she ran off.
“Hey bucko! What’s with the stern, overprotective, boyfriend-like attitude?” Daniel shouted.

Alexander stopped walking, “Do not bucko me.” He went in his car and so did Aerith, who looked worried with the boys’ situation.
“Hey, can I ask you something?” Aerith asked.

“What?”

“Why were you mad at Daniel?”

“I wasn’t mad. I was just pissed off of his face.”

“You really are a meanie aren’t you?”

“Whatever you say.”

Aerith remained silent.
Another day came.

“Hey, Annie, are you going on a date today?”

“No.”

“Why? Oh poor Daniel!” Lora sighed.

“The master asked me to assist him today.”

“Master Alexander?” Lora was surprised, “with what?”

“I don’t know. He said he’s meeting someone today and he wants me to go with him. Perhaps it’s about business.” Aerith reasoned out business so that Lora’s mood won’t go down.

“Yeah, you’re right. I hope I had your business skills.” Lora said, “If I had it, then, after business, I’d go for some extra lovin’, if you know what I mean.”

Aerith giggled and so did Lora. Aerith was glad to see that Lora had no hard feelings about such.
“I asked Mr. Adams if I can visit my mom today and he said yes. My beloved also gave his consent.”

“I’m glad to hear that.”

“Yeah. I have to check her in her condition. She’s asthmatic, you know.”

“Oh… I see.”

“So, I’ll get dressed now. Later Annie!” Lora ran off.
“Why are you in your maid dress?” Alexander asked.

“Oh, do I have to change?”

“Yes, you have.”
After a while, Aerith came back with her clothes changed. And so, Alexander and Aerith left.

“By the way, we need to drop by the flower shop and the picnic supplies store. We need some flowers and a picnic basket.”

“flowers and a picnic basket?” Aerith was curious.
After purchasing a picnic basket, they set off. To Aerith’s surprise, they stopped at the cemetery.

“Hey master, who really are you meeting with?”

“The birthday celebrant.”

“You’re scaring me!”

He giggled, “Do you really want to know?”

“Of course I do.”

“My mother.” He answered, “It’s her birthday today.”
Aerith was completely surprised. She was overwhelmed, embarrassed, and humbled at the same time.

“Happy birthday, Mom.” He placed the flower down. He shifted his gaze to Aerith who was standing a few feet away from him.

“What are you doing? Come here and greet my mom!” he ordered.

Seeing that the “borders” set are removed already, she walked closer. “Happy birthday, Ma’am.” She greeted.

He smiled, “Get the picnic mat ready.”
“So this is what you meant by someone special” Aerith munched on her food. “I thought we were going to meet a business partner.”

“Why does it always have to be business in your mind?”

“That’s the status quo?” she answered.

He chuckled and grabbed his grub.
“So my duty here is just to bring your picnic basket?”

“I also want you to meet my mom.”

“We are not introduced to each other yet.”

“Mom, this is Annie. Annie, this is my mother.” He said.

“It’s my pleasure to meet such a lovely woman.”
“It’s as if you have seen her already.” He spoke.

“I bet she's very lovely.” She said as she looked at the grave.

“I also wasn’t given the chance to see her in person…” Alexander said, “But I agree with you.”

Aerith’s heart seemed clamped upon hearing that.
“Annie?” Mr. Adams suddenly arrived.

“Mr. Adams!” Alexander and Aerith chorused.

“I’m surprised to see you here.” Mr. Adams placed the flower on the grave and greeted, “Happy birthday, Madam.”

“He brought me here! I thought we’re going to meet a business person.” Aerith said. She stood up, “I’ll go wash my hands over there. If you’ll excuse me…” She ran away.

“Go.” Mr. Adams smiled. He shifted his look to Alexander, “That’s peculiar of you to bring her here. You never brought anyone here except the late Miss Hyacinth.”

Alexander flushed, “I brought you here!” he reasoned out.

Mr. Adams laughed.
“So, you introduced her to your mom already?”

Alexander didn’t answer. He looked away. Then, Aerith arrived. “what did I miss?” she sat down.

“Pretty much, none.” Mr. Adams said, “Now let me have these yummy hotdogs.”
“It’s almost sunset. Let’s go home.” Alexander said.

Aerith and Mr. Adams cleaned up. Alexander said goodbye to his mother. And so, they left.
That evening, while on her way to dreamland, Aerith kept on thinking about their day on the cemetery.

“I was introduced to his mom… like I’m his special someone…” she flushed upon thinking. “Stupid Aerith! Go to sleep!” she punched her head.
Another day came.
It was another ordinary day perhaps.
Alexander left early for work. Mr. Adams, Lora, who came back at dawn, and Aerith continued their usual tasks.
“so how’s your mom?” Aerith asked Lora.

“she’s doing well. How’s yesterday’s business meeting?”

Aerith’s eyes widened, “uhmmm… great.”

“that’s nice. Hey, I dreamt of my beloved last night. You wanna know what happened in my dream?”

“Right after your duties ladies.” Mr. Adams suddenly bumped in.

“Yes sir!” the two chorused and chuckled.
Alexander was on his way to meet a client on a first class lounge. When he arrived, he was surprised to see a familiar face.

“Oh! It’s my Annie’s master. Mr. Alexander Martins.”
“I don’t want to get involved with dense people so get out of my way, Daniel Calgon.”

“Whoa! Chill!” Daniel chuckled. Then his look and tone became serious, “You know, buddy, I don’t like the way you treat Annie.”

“You don’t have anything to do with me and Annie. I also don’t like you trying to cling yourself around her.”

“I have the right to "cling" on her, if that’s what you call it. I am a special person to Annie.”

“I bet you’re the only one to know that.” Alexander answered. Tension was rising.
“I’ve been watching Annie and your household for quite a while now. Let me tell you, stop acting like Annie is yours. She is not yours, she was never yours and she will never be.” Daniel smirked.

“What makes you think so?” Alexander was really pissed off.

“Annie is already mine… even before you met her.”

“What nonsense are you talking about?”
“Annie or shall we say Aerith Johnson, for formality’s sake…”

“Aerith Johnson?” Alexander was surprised.

“Yes, Aerith Johnson, the heiress of the richest and most influential family in Hidden Springs!” Daniel spoke, “I thought you already know that you hired a princess and turned her to a maid.”

Alexander still cannot believe what he heard. “Bogus.”
“I expected that. Well, if you still don’t believe me, you can search it online. And here’s a folder containing information about Aerith Johnson. I also included there a newspaper headline from Hidden Springs containing the search for Aerith Johnson. I bothered doing that so that you can get the hell out of her life.”

Alexander was speechless as he opened the folder.
“Oh… And by the way, the real deal’s not Daniel Calgon, buddy…” Daniel smirked, “It’s Devon… Devon Coleman, Aerith Johnson’s fiancé and the owner of Coleman company. I’m the one you’re going to meet today, your client.”

Alexander was still in the state of shock.

“But it seems like you’re not in the right state to negotiate, buddy.” He patted Alexander’s back. “So, I’ll just inform your secretary the next time, okay?” he walked away.

Alexander stood there, frozen. His fists clenched on the folder.
