The blood curdling scream could be heard from two streets away. For such a quiet town, screams like that were not frequent. And at 7am, no-one was expecting it. Half the town was woken up by the horrible screeching coming from the house on the cliff.

The blood curdling scream could be heard from two streets away. For such a quiet town, screams like that were not frequent. And at 7am, no-one was expecting it. Half the town was woken up by the horrible screeching coming from the house on the cliff.
"AARAAHAUHAAHAAH!!" wailed Katey, the plump girl in the centre. "I can't believe he dumped me, again!"
Crystal, the brunette in the red jacket, rolled her eyes.
"Katey, you just need to forget about him," said Crystal, putting her arm around Katey's shoulder. "This is the third time this month that he's dumped you, and it always ends exactly the same."
Katey dabbed a tear from her eye. "You know what? You're right. From here on, I'm renouncing all men!" Katey shouted.
"Uh, Katey, you don't need to stop dating full stop!" started Olivia, the blonde girl who was still in her pyjamas. "Just focus more on finding the right guy. Not all men are going to disrespect you."
"I suppose you're right." Katey sniveled.
"Great! Now come on, you haven't eaten all morning, do you want some pie?" Olivia offered.
Katey shot her a look of disgust.
"Pie? PIE?! How can I eat that?! Mark wants me to be skinny, don't you know that?!"
"Okay, uh, how about we watch a movie? You know, to take your mind of things?" Crystal quickly added.
"Um, if you say so," Katey rubbed the mascara out of her eyes. "What movies did you have in mind?"
"Let's see.. We have The Notebook for sure! I think I have a copy of Titanic upstairs." said Crystal.
"Are you KIDDING ME?!" Katey howled.
"What did I do?" asked a stunned Crystal.
"ROMANCE MOVIES?!" Katey wailed. "Are you out of your mind?!"
Crystal got down to help her. "Sorry, Sorry! Did you have something less.. romantic in mind?" she asked.
"I want blood, I want guts, I want boys ripped to pieces! I want strong, independent women bathing in their tears!!"
"Right..." Crystal slowly backed away from Katey. "Uh, maybe they'll have that on the Disney Channel."
"What on earth is going on in here?!" a booming voice shouted.
For a moment, Katey stopped crying. The tall, ginger woman standing by the door was Shannon, the self-elected leader of the group.
"I just got a phone call from Mrs Kensington from down the road. She told me that her gravely ill husband was woken up by your banshee noises!"
The rest of the group went dead silent. Shannon's eyes darted around.
"Well? Care to explain?"
Katey ran up and hugged Shannon. The tears started flowing, again.
"I'm so sorry, Shannon, it's just that..." Katey blubbered. "Mark dumped me!"
"Again?" Shannon asked as she pried Katey's arms off her back.
"He just said that we were becoming distant and that it was time to break things off..." Katy howled.
"But you've seen each other every day this week! You don't think there's another woman involved, do you?"
At this point, Katey cried even harder and wrapped her arms around Shannon even tighter.
At that moment, Crystal came over and gently took Katey along.
"Alright, Katey and I are going to go outside for a bit of fresh air!" Crystal winked at Shannon and took Katey out into the garden. Olivia was about to go upstairs before Shannon stopped her.
"Hey, Olivia, uh, I heard about your grandmother... Do you want to talk about it?"
"No, Shannon, it's fine. Honestly. I barely even knew my grandma! But that box arrived, so I'll go through that later." Olivia sighed.
"Wait, what box?" Shannon was inquisitive.
"A box was delivered earlier. Thankfully Katey's screaming woke me up early so I could answer the door. I had a quick glance, it's mainly full of letters and photos of my grandma and her sisters." Olivia said.
"Oh, I see. I'll leave you to it then." Shannon walked to the kitchen and Olivia continued up the stairs.
Outside, Crystal was stuck listening to Katey's life story.
"Oh Crystal, I really miss Mark! I remember our first date! He took me to McDonalds and he let me eat as much as I want!" Katey whimpered.
"Yeah, that's because he 'forgot his wallet' and made you pay for your meal and his!" Crystal replied.
"Exactly! That's why he's an absolute idiot and I hate his sorry guts!" Katey began. "But his eyes... Oh gosh HIS EYES! I swear, every time I looked in his eyes it was like I was melting on the inside. Crystal, what do I do?!"
"Ugh, I don't know, give Jerry Springer a call! Or maybe Oprah can help you out with a free car or whatever." Crystal grunted.
Deep down, Crystal despised Shannon. All 4 girls paid equal amounts of rent each month, but Shannon seemed to act like the leader. Of course, every household needs a grown up to organise everything, but Shannon had everyone under her thumb. Shannon was very strict, and typed up a list of ridiculous rules for everyone to follow. But of course, when a member of the household is in need, Shannon just relies on someone else to get them back on their feet.
Crystal was so caught up with all of the negative thoughts about Shannon that she couldn't even hear Katey's ramblings. But she suddenly snapped out of her trance when she noticed something across the garden. It looked like a purple dress next to the flower planter. But there was someone in the dress. And she was moving closer. Without even taking a step. Crystal shot up from her seat. But there was nothing there. Crystal's eyes swept the entire garden, but to no avail - there was nothing. She wondered if she had been hallucinating. Maybe all the negative thoughts had caused her to see things that weren't really there? Even Crystal found that hard to believe. There was a tap on her shoulder. She jumped up only to find Katey standing behind her. Crystal growled and turned back round. "What do you want, Katey?" Crystal grumbled.
"Oh, sorry, are you upset?" Katey asked.
"Huh? No, I just.. ugh, it doesn't matter."
"So....." Katey leaned in closer to Crystal.
"What now?!" Crystal was getting more disgruntled by the minute.
"Well who's in the basement then?"
Crystal froze with fear.
"Sorry, but what the heck are you talking about?"
"Oh..." Katey took a step back. "I thought you said something. I guess not." Katey turned to go back inside before Crystal stopped her.
"What did I say?!"
"Well, I thought you kept said "In the basement. She's in the basement."
A chill ran down Crystal's spine. Was Katey playing with her head? Did she find out that Crystal wasn't listening and decide to play a trick on her? Whatever had happened, Crystal didn't want any more of it.
"I didn't say anything. You're probably delirious." Crystal held back a shiver.
"You're right, I mean, I haven't had any liquids since I heard from..." Katey started crying again. "Marky!"
Meanwhile, Olivia got changed out of her pyjamas and went downstairs to her special room. The room was attached to the living room and was full of plants and flowers, with an old chest in the middle which she used as a coffee table. Olivia sat down with a hot cup of tea and sipped it gently. She was very excited to open the box her grandmother left her, but at the same time she was quite nervous. The box let off an odd aura. The intricate detailing and fine polished wood was like nothing she'd seen before. She took a huge breath as she reached over for the box. But suddenly, she heard something.
"Hello?" Olivia called out. No reply.
She placed the box on her lap.
"Basement." A chill shot down her spine.
"Who's there?!" she called. Again, no reply. She gingerly opened the box and took the lid off.
"She's in the basement."
Olivia quickly put the box down. Now the only things she could hear were her heartbeat and her abnormally heavy breathing. She was having a minor panic attack. She firmly grabbed on to the edge of the armchair and clamped her eyes shut. She very slowly took deep breaths and felt fine after a couple of minutes. She reached over for the box.
"I'm behind you."
Faster than a bolt of lightening, Olivia spun around off her chair. Her pulse was racing and she found herself in a cold sweat. Olivia continued to take deep, slow breaths. She looked outside the window, but there was nothing.... Nothing, except for Katey still flailing on the ground, with a seriously irritated Crystal accompanying her.
"WHY, MARK, WHYYYY?!" Katey screeched.
Deep down, Olivia knew that whatever she heard was not from Katey. But she pretended that it was, even if it was just to avoid having another panic attack. Perhaps now wasn't the best time to look at the box. Maybe she'd do it when she wasn't alone.
Upstairs, Shannon was preparing herself for the day ahead by applying her favourite shade of red lipstick. Some people say Shannon cared too much about her appearance, but she didn't care. She looked hot, and they didn't. Still, Shannon had no idea what was going on downstairs, but then again, she didn't really want to know. All of a sudden she felt a shiver. It felt like someone was whispering into her ear.
"She's in the basement."
Shannon didn't take her eyes off the mirror, but she saw the ghastly, pale woman staring at her. She nearly dropped her lipstick in fear. Shannon blinked, but the woman didn't move. Instead, she stared straight back at her.
"She's in the basement," echoed the voice. "And you're next."
Shannon flung around so hard that she dropped her lipstick. She didn't even notice as it left a scarlet red stain on the floor. The woman was gone. Shannon glanced back in the mirror, but the reflection was as it should be. She filled the sink with cold water and washed her face.
"That oughta wake me up." she thought.
Who on earth would that be?
The knocking continued. Judging from the terrified looks from the rest of the girls, this didn't look like good news.
The knocks got louder each time. Who was it? They weren't expecting anyone.
"Shannon, I'm scared. Do you think it's her?" Olivia whimpered.
"Wait, you saw her too?" Shannon spluttered.
"Same here." said Crystal, hiding behind the archway.
"IT'S MARK, I KNOW IT!! TELL HIM TO GO AWAY!" Katey cried. "Unless he's come back to make up with me!"
Shannon rolled her eyes and continued on downstairs.
"Stand back, girls." Shannon instructed.
She slowly walked over to the door. There were no glass panels so they couldn't see who was knocking.
"Be careful, Shannon." instructed Crystal.
Shannon thought that Crystal was genuinely caring about her, but then she realised that Crystal merely doesn't want to have to look after everybody in the house.
Finally, Shannon reached for the doorknob. She gently twisted it around, then pulled it backwards. She opened the door. All the girls froze. Olivia let go of Katey and moved forwards.
"You." Olivia said.

Interesting concept, the beginning was a bit slow for me. You added a lot of descriptive words to your dialogue, which made it a bit bulky to read. You don't need to describe the character as feeling something, show not tell. Like their words or gestures should be used instead of adjectives.

So the scream could be heard from two streets away, yet half the town was woken up by it?
Remember not to use too many different perceptions of distance in one paragraph, it makes things confusing for the reader.
You used A LOT of adjectives, when you could have settled for fewer. This use of so many adjectives is also confusing for the reader.
Going back to the beginning again, its a bit confusing, going from a horror setting and then to normal. I had to read it over a few times to realize it was a transition.
It was a bit of a choppy, difficult read.
Hopefully next time will be better if you improve on the things I pointed out.

*just a note*
Thank you for your lovely comments!
But I must say, this is my story, and my writing style. If you don't like it then you don't have to read it. If you find it confusing then sadly that's your problem, as most other people seem to be able to read it fine.
