Create-A-Sim and other customizable features The Create-A-Sim tool (CAS for short) is the unofficial name of the tool that will allow the user to change the appearance of their sim. The full-functioning tool will be released for download in November, after Maxis opens the official Sims 2 website in October. Using CAS, every article of clothing can be changed. CAS will come with about four default choices for skin, eye, and hair colors, but users will be able to add their own custom content. Through custom content, users can change skin to any color, including purple or striped, and also add freckles, braces, tattoos, make-up for both men and women, and also allow cross-dressing. One of the handy features in CAS is to pick what a sim looks like in each stage of their life. For example, create the appearance of the sim as an adult, and then put them into the game as a toddler and they will grow up to look like what was selected. Custom meshes can also be added. Meshes give shape to the skin and are created using a program like Maya. While Maya is a very expensive high-end graphics program, a free learning version is available for download starting October 15th, 2003. Maxis will be writing a tutorial for how to create meshes with Maya. New tools besides CAS will allow for customization. The first of these tools is the terrain maker from Sim City 4. Terrains can be imported into the neighborhood. MP3s can be added to the radio. Family albums will contain videos and sound. Relationships Sims are able to have very interesting lifestyles. In order to have babies, a sim needs to �play.� Elderly people are able to �play� but not have babies. Sims will remember if they�ve �played� with a certain person or not. Gay sims will be able to marry. First cousins are also allowed to marry. The whole family can be invited for a marriage ceremony. Sims can also have affairs, and divorce is possible if both married partners have a low relationship score. Adults won�t have all the fun with relationships. Kids are able to have crushes. Two teen girls can fight over a boy and vice versa. Teens are expected to have rebellious personalities. A special type of kiss, called the family kiss, can be given to the children from the parents. The household limit will remain at eight members, just like the original. Because of this, an adult woman living by herself will probably only be able to conceive seven children. Sims not married or related can live in the same house. This could mean that it will be possible to build an apartment complex on one lot, but it hasn�t been confirmed. Adult sims are not required to get married in order to move out of the house. Furniture Furniture will age as it is being used. Some popular objects from the original Sims will be available for download from Maxis after the game is released. Maxis also wants to make a vanity table and other objects that the fans have suggested available. Although screenshots show doors with keyholes, Maxis hasn�t decided on whether doors will lock or not. Sims will recognize which bedroom is theirs, and will not be able to �play� on the couch, because that might hurt its teen rating. Miscellaneous Nostalgic simmers will be happy to know that the Newbies and the Goths will be in the Sims 2. Sims can smell bad and other sims will notice, which will make it more difficult for Bob Newbie to have high scores on the two relationship bars without a little help from cheats, which will be included in the game. Hair will be animated and move naturally, which could pose another problem for the balding Bob Newbie. The maid, robber, and Grim Reaper will also return. Interactivity with NPCs is increased, and it is even possible to marry them, with the exception of the Grim Reaper. The tragic clown will not be returning. There will also be a community area to buy clothing for the sims, which is similar to Old Town from the Unleashed expansion pack from the original Sims. Maxis is trying to get a teen rating for the game. All nudity will be blurred, and underneath the blur, there is nothing to see, just like a Barbie doll. It might be possible to purposefully kill a sim, but that hasn�t been confirmed. Other facts that the fans are waiting to be answered include adoption, holidays, and seasons.
