Joanne Walker is missing.
Chris Parker wants her back.
He has been waiting for 2 years and finally decided to start the search again.
But considering that his actions are being monitored by the police...
How far could he go? How desperate for help can he get?

This is the 3rd part of Taken, hope you enjoy ;-)
Chris wondered where he should start looking for answers.
It is not that he didn’t try searching for Joanne before, he did.

But he just couldn’t deal with the disappointment each time his investigation fails.
It felt like with each failure, he is losing more hope.
He pushed himself hard sometime ago, and ended up in a depression.

However, the call he received in the afternoon sparked something in Chris.
He wants to try again, to give the search another shot.

After some thought, he decided to start from the bar where he met Joanne.
The bartender was close to her, and he could use a drink...
“My, my... Look what we have here?
Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is that you, Chris?”
The bartender eyes Chris mischievously.

“Heh. Good to see you, Martha. How’s business?”

“Pretty well, dear. Got a new car, new clothes...
But you are not here just for chit-chat, what can I get you?”
“A gin tonic would hit the spot.”

“Sure thing. So what have you been up to lately?
Haven’t seen you here in ages.”

“Oh, the usual. Work, gym, drumming...”

“That sounds REALLY exciting,” Martha grinned.
“I guess things aren’t the same anymore.
Sometimes, I wish that the two of you would come down more often...
Oops!” She coverd her mouth in surprise. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to bring her up...”

Chris smiled, “It’s alright, I’m kinda over it now.
In fact, I would like to try my luck to find Joanne again.”
Martha prepared his drink and handed it over to Chis silently.

As picked up his drink, she whispered in a voice so low that only he could hear.
“Chris, I’m glad that you are picking yourself up again.
If anyone could find her, it should be you. Not some P.I. you hired or anyone else.”

Chris widened his eyes and stared at her, “How did you know that I hired a P.I.?”

“I have my sources, dear. They are for me to know and you to find out.” She winked.
“I don’t have information on her whereabouts, but I know who can help.
I think you know who I’m talking about, Chris...”

Chris flashed a confused look for a moment and then the answer dawned upon him.
“You don’t mean...”

Martha nodded, “Yes. The God Father.”
Chris got back to his place and felt very uneasy.

He started remembering the times when he searched for Joanne.
The searches were not fruitful and he started panicking.
In an act of desperation, Chris decided to seek help from anyone...
Even if it meant consorting with members of the black market.
It provides and sells all sorts of services and information, for a price.
Still, nothing was found and Chris eventually gave up.
But during that time, he had heard of the God Father, a rising underground faction leader.
That was a year back, what happened since then, Chris has no idea.

Now, he wondered...
Why did Martha bring the God Father up?
What is her relation to the him?
Does he really need to depend on his help?
Forget the problems, it is time for him to start work.

He booted up his desktop and started gathering information.
For months, he had been gathering intelligence about the events and officers of the police department.
Of course, there was only so much he could gather about their activities.
However, with the data he gets each time, he will coalesce them together in hopes of figuring a possible trend, or some possible lead to Joanne.
He still believes that the police is indirectly involved with her disappearance.
By the time he was done, it was morning.
Chris rubs his eyes tiredly and groaned.

It was an all-nighter, but worth it.
He noticed that there is indeed something going on and it is beyond his hands,
he needs help.
Without further ado, Chris wrote a few cryptic letters addressed to different people.
When the mailbox snapped shut, he sighed.
“Hopefully, one of them will get through...”
Checking his watch, “So it’s Thursday, laundry day...”

While tossing a load in the washer, Chris’s mind was racing.
Joanne’s disappearance, the cop from last afternoon, Martha and the God Father...
All these events happening together, shouldn’t just be a mere coincidence either.
But... What could they mean?
All he has are bits and pieces of information that don’t make sense to him.
Chris started pounding away at the drums, venting his frustration.

Nonetheless, he is clear about one thing.
Joanne is involved in this mess and he intends to get her out of it.
He was still in deep thought when he heard the creaking of his front gates.
It is late and he wasn’t expecting any visitors.

“Hmph, this is interesting. I wonder who could it be...”
From he distance, he sees a crook entering the gates and paused to admire his Maserati.

Big mistake. During that time, he managed to creep up and launch a pre-emptive attack.
By the next moment, they started brawling.
However, the training at the gym had paid off and the fight for over as soon as it had started.

“Oww... That hurts, buster!” Chris heard a surprising feminine voice.

“Y-you are female?!” he gawked and tried to regain his composure.
“W-well, you are lucky I went easy on you this time...”
The crook eyes Chris flirtatiously, “I would LOVE to have you pounce on me anytime...”

“Anyway, you better leave. The alarm got off and the cops will be here any moment.”
Since you haven’t stolen anything, I let you go this time.” He turned away and faced the aquarium.
“And please, choose a cleaner job.”

“You are mighty generous, Mr Parker. But my job is not yet done.
I’m here as a messenger, from the God Father.”

“So he did get one of the letters I sent, good. What does he want to say?” he asked.

“He will be in touch with you soon. Very soon.”

“But when-” Chris turned around to face her.
Only to see a dark silhouette speeding away, quickly blending into the darkness of the night.
Within the next few minutes, the cops arrived and started scanning through his estate for missing possessions.

“Mr Parker, you’ll be glad to know that nothing is missing.”

“Yeah, thanks for coming by on such a short notice....
A shame that the cat got away.” Chris sighed.
“Remember, Mr Parker. Your safety is our number one priority.
So try not to do anything dangerous before we arrive-”

“Ah well, a little too late for that.” He thought.

“-and if you do see the crook again or anything suspicious,
You know who to call.” The cop gave him a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

“Uh, sure. Thanks.”
“Good day, Mr Parker.”

Chris watched her till she left the gates and finally relaxed.
“Jeez... First, a crook and now, a cop?
What’s next?”
He booted his desktop once again and was taken aback in terror.
He checked over and over... only to realise that the data he compiled is gone!
Either it was deleted... or taken.

“Dammit!!!” Chris cursed. “Must be the cop that searched my place just now.
So... They are on to me.”
He thought, “Looks like I don’t really have a choice in this matter...
I need the help of the God Father.”

Pausing for a moment and scratching his head,
“But in return, what would he want from me...?”
That’s it, folks! :D
Hope you like the turning of events.
Trying for a something different than my previous works.

Hmmm... Chris is losing his mind...  He is really going to deal with this "Godfather", right?... I think he really loves his girl. It explains a lot. I hope this "Godfather" doesn't mess with his life. He has problems enough. And what would be the connection between the cops and his missing girl? The story is awesome, Frank! \:\)

The guy should really stop trust police, moreover if he is going to get involved with character like The Godfather!
