okay, let's get on with the story!
“The little brat is taking us to court!” Miranda snapped as she slammed the folder down in front of Adonis. He was in the middle of eating breakfast. His eyes went wide.
“She’s WHAT?” he said with his mouth full. “Can she even do that?!”

Miranda sighed, “Looks like it, Don. I had no idea she was this pissed.” She groaned, “Ugh I don’t feel like dealing with this crap. Can’t you talk her out of it?! She’s like, head over heels for you. Get her to drop this thing!”
Adonis chuckled bitterly and shook his head, “Yeah right, I’m the last person she’ll talk to. You remember how she reacted when I came by. I told you she found out! I knew it!”

“How the heck was I supposed to know she had access to the damn broadcast?! It was just for the people of Bridgeport! I have no idea how she got to stream it in Starlight Shores!” she said for what felt like the millionth time.

“I told you I didn’t want to sing her songs! Now she hates me; I’ll probably never get to see or talk to her again.” He said to Miranda.
She scoffed, “That’s all you’re worried about Adonis?! That some girl isn’t gonna talk to you anymore?! Do you know how many girls would kill to be in her spot?! We have bigger issues to worry about! Who knows how much they’re asking for from you to sing these songs! And you’re worried about your stupid little fling.” She rolled her eyes and walked out of Adonis’ kitchen.

Adonis sighed. Miranda was right; he should really be more focused on the lawsuit than his relationship with Joanna.
“You okay, Jo?” Tessa asked her. The initial court appearance was tomorrow morning. It had been a little less than a month since Adonis had come home, and Demi had sped the court process up.

Joanna let out a shaky breath, “I guess. I just want all this to hurry up and be done with…then I can go back to my old life and be nobody again.”

Word got out about the songs, and the towns’ opinion had been split. Half of the people of Starlight Shores believed the songs were hers, and that Adonis and Miranda stole them from Joanna; and the other half thought Joanna was a liar, and just upset that Adonis had dumped her before his tour and she wanted to get revenge. She was being hounded by paparazzi and reporters every time she left her house.
“You were never a nobody Joanna.” Tessa said hugging her best friend, “you’ll do great tomorrow. I’ll be with you every step of the way. Demi too.”

Joanna scoffed; she had barely spoken to Demi. Her feelings for him wouldn’t go away, and she wanted to stay as far away from him as possible unless it was absolutely necessary. She sometimes faked sick and sent Tessa in her place if he needed her.
Tessa rolled her eyes, “One of these days you’re gonna have to either fess up to how you feel about him, or get the hell over it and move on…” she walked out of the living room.

Joanna looked at her best friends back and squinted angrily.

She was right, but she didn’t have to say it. “Shut up.” She mumbled.
The next morning, Tessa and Joanna met with Demi in front of the courthouse. Joanna was shaking like a leaf; she didn’t want to be here. “I should have just dropped the whole case. Nobody believes me anyway…” she mused nervously. She could hear Tessa groan in annoyance. Demi made Joanna look at him, “Joanna, don’t doubt yourself. You know you wrote those songs. You know they stole them, I believe you, Tessa believes you, and we’ll make the judge believe you. You just have to believe yourself. This isn’t going to work if you go in there thinking you’ve already lost.” He finished and smiled warmly at her.

He was gorgeous. She couldn’t even focus on anything after that speech, she just nodded her head. She gave a look over to Tessa, who nodded, and the three walked inside.
Miranda, Adonis, and the record labels lawyer walked in and sat down about half an hour after they did. Adonis caught eyes with Joanna and gave her a nervous smile. Joanna looked away quickly. The judge walked in looking very serious. He nodded in acknowledgement to both parties, and sat down before he spoke. “Okay ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to make this a short process…” he looked down at the file on his desk, “we have a case of copyright infringement; some songs have supposedly been stolen from a Miss. Joanna McFadden and have been recorded and performed without permission by a Mr. Adonis Alexander…I’ll hear opening statements from Mr. Demi Hardgrove, who is defending Miss McFadden, first. Mr. Hardgrove?” Demi cleared his throat and stood up. “Your Honor, I’m here to stake a claim that this man has stolen property from my client without her permission. He took two songs that she wrote on her own, to be used on an upcoming album, and used them for his own gain on his latest concert tour.” He looked at Adonis and Miranda briefly, “millions of people heard music that was not intended to be sung by this man. We believe my client Miss McFadden deserves compensation on past and future recordings, and writers’ credits added onto anything these songs are featured on.”

The judge nodded, and looked to Adonis’ lawyer and gestured for her to go.
“Your Honor, first I’d like to say that my client did not steal any music. The songs were presented to his manager and the music board executives of the label. After the songs were presented and rejected for Miss McFadden’s still unfinished EP, they were practically label property, and were available for any artist signed under Shooting Starlight Records to record and use as he or she pleased." Joanna gawked at the claim. Joanna leaned over to Demi, “They never said that! Ever! Even if I had known that they still didn’t tell me that Adonis would be singing them on his tour!” she whispered fiercely. Demi nodded.

“Your Honor, if I may interrupt. My client had no knowledge of this, it was never told to her, and she never received a contract in which these claims were made clear to her.”
The other lawyer rolled her eyes, “If I may continue. I’m here to prove that my client obtained those songs by legal means, and that Miss McFadden lost claims to this music once she presented them. My client has a busy schedule and would like to get this over and done with as soon as possible.” She looked at Demi and Joanna and went back to her seat. The judge cleared his throat, “Okay. Well I’ve heard opening statements and have taken notes. I want to take a 20 minute recess before we begin. I want this done today, so no dawdling everyone.” He got up from his seat and went to his chambers, leaving the two sides to talk amongst themselves. She kept her head in her hands and sighed, “I knew nothing about what they were going to do with my songs, Demi. You know if I did I would’ve told you. Miranda asked for copies of my songs and said nothing else.” Joanna said desperately.

Demi nodded, “It’s okay, I believe you. The only way they don’t look guilty in all of this is if they say it’s common knowledge what they do with songs that aren’t selected for albums. What I’m going to do is show the judge that you had no idea; that you’ve never dealt with any record label before. They never told you, so they’re at fault, not you.”
Joanna looked nervous; she was starting to doubt herself and this case more than ever before. Demi looked at her, “Hey, you trust me, don’t you?"

She stared at him for what seemed like forever. She was literally lost in his eyes. She nodded slightly and he smiled, “Good. I’m here for you, okay?” she nodded again.
“Did you see that?! Did you see how she looked at him?! She likes him!” Adonis seethed, “What does he have that I don’t?!” “Well I’ll tell you what he doesn’t have…” his lawyer began with a slight attitude, “2 songs that she wrote. You need to stop worrying about your lost love and start focusing on this case. You really have NO proof whatsoever that she let you use these songs. You better hope I can get the judge to believe all this crap you guys are feeding me.” “That’s what the label pays you for, Samantha.” Miranda shot nastily at her. “Because if Adonis loses’ this, the money he has to give to the girl is money that he could’ve used for studio time. And if we lose studio time, the label loses revenue, and other departments might get cut backs. I’ll make sure the legal department gets hit first.” She looked at the lawyer and sat back in her seat. Samantha reeled her anger in and sat quietly as she waited for the judge to come back. Phew! Done! Uploading these pictures was hell! lol

Hope you enjoyed this chapter! See you in 13!
