Created for: The Sims 3 Creator Terms of Use
There is one house in every community that tempts you to take a closer look. This is such a house - although the term is used loosely. In fact, this is not simply a house - it is either a dream or a nightmare depending on the depth of your pockets!
Chateau Montserrat [known locally as Montserrat] is two and a half storeys of gracious living in the old style. Two and a half because most of the third storey is taken up by a rampart terrace, where once defending archers, loyal to the family, stood on high the better to repel their enemies. Interior brick walls have been lined with mellow timber throughout, and the warmth of rugs and mats has been added to the original stone floors. The master bedroom is located in the tower which formed the original keep, and is open through the 2 levels above it. There are 4 other bedrooms in the main wing on the first floor; 3 of them with ensuites. There is a total of 5 bathrooms.
Guests at the Chateau enter first into the great room, cosily heated by a huge marble fireplace and from here there are many choices. Go ahead into the library/office with it's book-lined walls or go right to the small corner room where two chess tables are always ready to use . . . and more books! Turn left at the entry and you will find yourself in the formal diningroom that is much less formal than of old. A door here leads out to the covered, rear portico and thence to the rear courtyard. Back in the diningroom, the choices are - the open-plan kitchen on your left or two archways dead ahead. One to the more sedate sittingroom with it's own timber-surround fireplace, also accessible through the kitchen . . . and the other leads into the family TV lounge. A full bath has entry from both the diningroom and the greatroom.
A grand staircase leads up to the bedrooms, with which we are already acquainted, and there is a study area and easel space on the landing overlooking the duck pond - sorry, you won't see any ducks; ours are a bit climate sensitive so they've flown south for the winter. Here is also a narrower stair leading up to the piece de resistance on the top level. Up to where the music lives, and where the party begins. Insulated from the rest of the Chateau by the thick stone walls and timber lining, the stereo can be fully utilised or simply tune in the radio and enjoy an on-air drama or two, or mayhap a philharmonic recital? There is a banquet table in an alcove with tables and chairs set up to cater for any hungry dancers, or indeed anyone requiring sustenance. A bathroom occupies the rest of this level. Two doors lead out to the before-mentioned terrace where loungers and exercise equipment are available to cater for both static and active needs. . . or you can gaze at the stars through the telescope, if that is your preference.
Coming back down to earth, stone walkways now cover what used to be the moat, leaving just the two ponds on either side of the entrywalk - home to ducks and swans respectively - when they're home! No self-respecting Chateau would be without a housecow and she is usually found around hay in some form or other, keeping company with the pair of donkeys that have been resident absolutely forever - or so it seems.
Last but by no means least, the stables. The carriagehouse and stablehand's quarters are long gone, but there is still secure, if basic, housing for three horses plus a feed store, with an adjoining exercise/day paddock at the rear of the building.
