1970s Suburban
I have today finally finished my 1970s suburban project. I started it weeks ago but just couldn't get it to my own satisfaction. The house is a replica of the home I spent my first 25 years in and, as it underwent many changes in those decades (dad was a DIYer of the most prolific sort and mum was always moving the furniture about), I was having difficulty sorting out in my head what it actually looked like in the seventies!
I've settled on what it looked like around 1978 with furnishings, wallpaper, etc, although I have added a few anachronistic touches:
- the pool wouldn't be finished for another year,
- the verandah had been walled in,
- I think the kitchen was green and brown in that year, but I preferred the original orange.
- dad had already started "building" rooms under the house, and
- we definitely did NOT have a widescreen TV or microwave.
Oh, and the fence was "mission brown" but that just looked ghastly so I've whitewashed it.
I will be uploading this lot to TSR today and hope that you enjoy my trip down memory lane.
Uploading my first lot!
For over a year now I've been wondering what it would be like to share my houses with my fellow members on TSR and just never got around to it. There was always some excuse as to why I thought the house wasn't good enough to share - I couldn't find the right wallpaper (or I was too lazy to make it) or the 45 degree angle of rotation cheat wasn't working and that couch just HAD to be on an angle.
Then along comes Sims 3 and I can't use those excuses anymore! I'm addicted to Create a style - so much so that building the house and placing the furniture takes nowhere near as much time as changing the colours and fabrics.
This weekend just past I finally bit the bullet and uploaded my first creation - the Naytura. It was a bit nerve-wracking, wondering if anyone would even glance at a lot from an unknown, let alone want it for their game, but I have been amazingly surprised at how many people have already downloaded it and a few even left a comment. For a novice creator it is a big thrill to see the numbers indicating thank yous and downloads rise with each passing day. I hope that never gets tired.
I am currently working on three series of houses:
- "First Home Owners" for Sims straight from CAS (Naytura and Bayside)
- "Platinum Series" for those Sims who've got a little bit of spare cash and/or a large family and want something a little more upmarket (Agapanthus)
- "Australiana" for those Sims who are looking for a replica of traditional Australian architecture (nothing yet, but hopefully soon)
I hope you enjoy playing with my creations as much as I enjoyed building them.
